Purchased a 2010, 4WD, Access cab, V6 Auto SR5 TRD Sport last october and I love this truck.
This is my 4th Tacoma and it follows a 2004 Chev. 1500 Silverado that was loaded. This truck cost me $6400.00 in none typical maintenance over the 5 years that I owned it!. It had 108k miles on it when I traded it for my 2010 Tacoma. This was an honest decision to buy American and I will say the truck was comfortable, smooth and sharp.. Just not very dependable.
Here is the part that haunts me. I traded a 1997 SR5 4WD Tacoma with 160k that literally not once failed me for the 04 Silverado. (STUPID I Know, but it's water over the dam) I look at it this way.. someone got a great Tacoma truck at the auto auction.
    My first Tacoma was a 1987 4WD, 4cyl, and my second a 1989 4WD SR5 Access V6. Again ZERO issues.
Trucks 1-3.. a total of 450k miles!! One more thing, each weekend for 4 years I towed a 5x8 enclosed equipment trailer all over NY state with my 97 and when I traded it... it had the original clutch and back brakes as God is my witness!
As for my new My 2010, it does have a shifting issue and from all the posts that I have read, is a simple adjustment.

Yo mine has the same shifting issue and I am going to wait see if it works itself out or not.
I bought the 4x4 double cab short bed, glad I got the short bed that is hard enough to try and squeeze in and out of packed parking lots

Got this tip from a guy by the name of RIKSTER. Search for the Toyota Technical Service Bulletin #T-SB-0393-09 and take a copy of it with you to the dealership. Many have posted that once this correction was made the issue dissappeared. I have 3800miles on my truck and the issue has not changed a bit. First visit to service for this... I was told that the truck would learn my driving habits and adjust the shifting to my personal driving habits. I am the only one that drives my truck and as I said, nothing has changed.
IMO your trani issue will not work itself out. This is a service visit for sure.

God, thought I posted the results of the dealer visit long ago on the 2010 shifting issue. The dealer adjusted/reprogrammed the shifting profile and the issue is fixed. Apparently the truck was setup from the factory with an agrees I've off road shift profile. I now own a 2012 and verified the shifting profile prior to taking delivery. The 2012 shifts perfectly and smooth.
