Didn't read this before posting above, but I love the Durango/Silverton area. One of my most memorable family vacations was there a couple years ago.

Sooooo I'm thinking about coming back to the 1st Gen side of things.... still keeping the 2nd Gen but the wife is driving that and instead of her getting a 4Runner we'll get something a little cheaper and she said I could just get another 1st Gen  (hell yeah)

    My question:
Roughly how many miles are the automatics able to go without running into major issues?
Can I expect 200k miles? Just trying to gauge how high of mileage is my limit when searching...

I've seen photos of odometers over 300k on v6 autos, but if you happen to get on that craps out swap in a 5speed and be cool like that

250k on my V6 auto no problems. Over all it's starting to cry for normal wear items, A/C belt tensioner, Radiator, Front Suspension (can't complain front end is 100% original other then EMU lift)

Just cracked 162k and every thing is humming along. Only have the timing belt and water pump on the radar for their schedulded replacment cycle. If yours only sees pavement, regular maintence should get you to 300k+ without issue

That's the first 1st gen I've seen with the habitat nice! Was planning on a flippac for mine but felt they were overpriced, was hoping that the habitat would undercut them but now that they are the only game in town the price is astronomical. But if I will the lotto. The thing cost more than what you could get for your entire truck :( still great.

    P.S. @

I don't know if I have a dealer installed or factory installed (pre ordered) sunroof now. PO said it was dealer installed but he was the 2nd owner. :notsure: Yours has some different hinges and latch. Here is the cover that is on mine to give you some ideas for when you make yours.

I have the same setup as you in my extra cab. I believe ours is the factory sunroof while @JasonLee has a dealer installed sunroof. Those sunroof covers are pretty expensive for what they are from Toyota. Mine didn't come with one but I found one on CL for a decent price.

Thanks for clarifying that, i think you are right. Everything about it seems factory quality. To find one of those covers anywhere is a good find.

Sweet thanks for the response, I figured since most vehicle crap out around 150-200k miles these would be similar but thats re-assuring

A Tacoma crapping out before 200k (1st Gen or 2nd Gen) tells me the truck had a lack of routine maintenance done on it. Regular routine maintenance going by the manual should get you well past 200k. Of course there are always the outliers

Good deal yeah I'm looking to get one in the ball park of 100-150k miles so it should last me a while if that's the case.
These things sure are hard to find for a decent price, I loved getting the money when I sold mine but forgot how expensive they are when you're looking to BUY!

How did I miss this thread? Joined TW recently. Hasn't even been 30 days yet. My wallet has already taken a hit. It better get used to it because I have plans.

The mule mocked-up with color-matched FJC 17" steelies. The rims are currently black and in the garage waiting patiently for me wrap some rubber around them.
