Dude from ND that got hurt last year in the bowl game said if he could go back, he'd still play that game.

I understand not wanting to get hurt and risking millions of dollars. I really do. I just think I'd want one last game with my team. I don't know. Maybe I wouldn't.

I don't agree with Danny Kannel much, but he actually said something I agree with. Something to the extent of if players are sitting out to not get injured, people like Dak Prescott who are severely underpaid for their performance thus far, they should sit out for the same reason.

Myles Garrett stated Fournette's been trying to leave since sophomore season.

Kind of puts things in a different perspective. Makes me wonder now if the games he missed this year were legit. Honestly, Guice is a damn good running back too. So, I don't know that Fournette playing would have changed many outcomes of the season, but if Fournette has been trying to leave since last year, then that brings up questions of whether he was truly injured, or just sitting to protect himself like Clowney did.

I would imagine this contract stems from the reports that Jimbo was pursued by LSU/Texas. I'm sure FSU wanted to strengthen his contract to hopefully avoid those rumors in the future.

On the note of players not playing in bowls, Shock Linwood announced he will not play in Cactus bowl. Bit surprising IMO, is this guy high on draft boards?

Jimbo Fisher stated he would "stunned" if Dalvin didn't play in Orange Bowl.

See but the Orange bowl is a relevant bowl game that people actually care about, nobody gives a shit about the Sun Bowl or Cactus Bowl or whatever else.

No it's really not. The playoffs made bowl games even more meaningless than before.

A NY6 Bowl is objectively more meaningful than a random bowl game, if you don't agree I don't care, but you're wrong.

More entertaining-yes. More meaningful-not really. Does it make a slight difference in recruiting-maybe.

Your team isn't playing for shit. Take off the garnet and gold glasses.

The big bowls have more history and have been more meaningful in the past, but the playoffs have rendered all non-playoff bowls virtually meaningless. One could try to argue that the Sugar Bowl or the Rose Bowl is more meaningful than the Cactus Bowl or the Birmingham Bowl, but it seems that such a person is mistaking prestige for importance.

NY6 bowls are more prestigious. They're all equally meaningless. They have been since the advent of the BCS, and are even more so now that there is a playoff.

The only way to add meaning back to bowl games anymore is to do away with a bunch of the non-traditional ones and stop allowing teams without winning records to play in bowls. It won't add much meaning, but it sure would be nice if bowls were rewards for WINNING seasons... 7-5 at a minimum.

I'm sure the NCAA has contracts with companies/stadiums to where they have to send teams to play

As much as I'd like to see it change, college football is a multimillion dollar business at the end of the day. No matter how twisted and fucked it is

This conversation originated from whether players would sit for bowl games when they have possible NFL contracts approaching. If you factor out prestige/meaningfulness of games (the points you guys make by saying NY6 are no more meaningful than regular games), you end at a logical point of conclusion that literally every bowl is meaningless (including the playoff); the national championship/playoff games have no additional monetary value to these players over any other bowl games...

Prestige of games does factor into these players decisions and NY6 are exponentially more meaningfull games than regular bowl games and Playoff/Natty's are exponentially more important than NY6 games.

The bowls have "bids" they offer to teams. Ultimately the bowl game is trying to make money, why teams typically stay pretty regional.

All but 2 or 3 bowls are broadcast by ESPN/ABC. They're the driving force behind every no-name-who-gives-a-shit bowl out there.

If a kid sat down and did the math, I believe he would come to the conclusion that there is no bowl game (playoff or otherwise) that is worth risking tens of millions of dollars. I'm glad these kids aren't that logical, though, b/c several of Alabama's starters wouldn't be participating in the playoffs. Also, that's what insurance is for.

Within the context of college football, though, I don't know why any non-playoff bowl would be exponentially more important than any other. Sure, I'd rather play in a NY6 bowl (or see my team in one), but it's not that much bigger of a deal if it's not a playoff game.

The thinking that only playoff games matter is what leads to teams quitting, once you're out of playoff contention there is still a lot to play for. Making a NY6 bowl is still a big deal.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this topic, but I'm thrilled that FSU is playing in the Orange bowl vs. the Citrus bowl. The team could have quit after being stomped by Louisville and losing to UNC, but they realized their's still a lot to play for and became 4x state champs and got a bid to a major bowl.

Bowl games are something that makes college football unique, I do agree though they have dipped too deep to find teams in recent years (MSU 5-7 bowling this year), but with 120 something teams, you should be rewarded for doing well.
