I see some good info and i bet a six pack they quit putting the zerts in because the part is more cost effective.I just checked mine after another beer and both drive shafts are spicers and ujoints are dry as shit. since both have removed in the replacements listed above ,you would think they are tighted as the document recommends.

The u bolts hold the rear-end and the leaf springs springs together look ok but that does not mean they are tight

Any of the below grease and grease guns and special tools i can get for this task and i wonder if the spicer drive shafts are factory?

any thoughts, time for another beer time!

I wonder if a replacement part for the OR ujoints are date sensitive for with zerk or sans zerk . Or are all replacement u joints now going to be zerk free ?

Picked up my '17 DCSB 4x4 Sport last night that had a 9/30 build date. Just looked and I only see two zerks. From the front, the first two joints are blue with a zerk, and then the last three joints all look sealed to me. I can't find any zerks on them. I'll try to post pics later.

My 2017 TRD OR 4x4 only has the two that @mc282000 mentioned. Everything else is sealed. I had a 2016 TRD OR 4x4 (don't ask) that I greased so I knew what I was looking for under the truck. The two zerks needed 7-10 pumps. Also, it's incredible how much more metal is under this truck relative to my old one. A lot more protection for the tranny.

Literally just greased the second one, took 5 pumps until the grease came out. See below pic, does that look right? No need to force more out I assume?

    image.jpg

Ok, @splitbolt, now I'm paranoid, the grease that purged is a red fairly viscous material. Whereas the Valvoline I purchased looks like sludge. See pics. It's the NGLI2 or whatever that code is. Did I use the wrong stuff?

Toyota took their ball and went home.
What you want to see is new grease come out all 4 seals.

Mine was built in 07/2016 in Mexico and only have two in front. Makes me think if they if they just run out of parts and substitute what's lying around.

Huge thanks to splitbolt and TW. Early 16 with all five zerks, and they all took 7-10 pumps to purge all the air and old grease.

Sure the internal feed tubes to the roller bearings needed to be filled during this process but the amount of old black grease that came out was laughable.

So easy to do my six year old helped out.

Damn, kinda makes me wish I wouldn't have got this truck... I mean so far I love my truck but if this type of crap is what I have to look forward to with Toyota then I may have screwed up. I only have 526 miles on mine so far but when a person pays almost $40,000 for a new truck it better have been taken care of BEFORE I drive off in it. I don't want excuses or finger pointing! What a bunch of horseshit! So now we gotta do a 140 point inspections on new vehicles ourselves because the Manufacturer can't figure out who should have done something that needs to be done to a new vehicle? That is absurd!!! Not to mention they have one of the weakest warranties in the industry... I only bought it cause they are supposed to hold value and everyone I know that owns one swears they are the best trucks. How is this true if Toyota can't even grease fittings and do something as elementary as fill the damn tranny with proper fluid levels?

Nvm, just read through the last couple of pages after "only" making it through the first 30 and skipping ahead. Seems like the rear shaft no longer has zerks on the 2017 4x4 either.

Checked my front shaft and it has zerks that appear to be dry at this point. I'll be taking care of that this weekend with about 500 mi on the clock.

Update: greased both front joints (took off the heat shield for the rear) and both took 3-4 pumps to start clearing out the existing red grease.

I just used white lithuim #2 grease. Strange I only saw 4 zerk fittings. (One on each ujoint). Nothing on carrier bearing. 2016 trd sport 4x4 sport 6sp manual
