After drooling over All Pro's Hoss Tacoma, I noticed they put some lighting on the bed rack. I want to do the same - probably just like they did since they had an even number of them. Probably not as expensive as theirs though. :)

I'd like to add one on each side of my bed rack near the cab (facing outward) and two at the rear...facing the rear. If you haven't seen Hoss.

I'm thinking of powering it off of my fridge power which is 10 or 12 ga wire from the battery. So there's a chance I'll have a fridge running and four lights. Since they aren't driving lights and just seeing around at camp, they'll need to put out some light but not a huge power draw since I might have all that stuff running at one time.

I was looking around on 4wheel parts and they had some cheap KC lights that could work.

Am I out of my mind trying to run that many lights and the fridge off of one power feed from the battery? Any suggestions on lights that might work better for my situation?

    Hey William,

What exactly are you looking for out of the lighting? Just camp lighting basically, or something with more throw similar to the 4 LED pods that the Hoss build is running?

If you're looking for light in the immediate perimeter around/in the bed of your truck, I'd recommend our Cyclone lights that are often used for under hood or rock lighting kits. There's also a plethora of different mounting solutions for those so you can get em how you'd like on your rack. These are 5W and 0.42 amps each.

If you want a longer distance, I would look at our C3 LED cube lights in the flood beam pattern. These would be much more similar to what the All pro build is running and I think these would probably be better for you if you're emulating that build. These draw 12W at 1.0 amps.

To address the power concern, I wouldn't try to lump all of these lights and fridge together. First step is determining if you want to wire all the lights so that they all turn on with one switch, or if you want the ones that'll point to the sides independent of the rear facing lights. Then wire those appropriately and safely (relays fuses etc) separate from the fridge.

Thanks for the reply! I was actually just looking at those Cyclone lights - they might work perfectly. I'll check out the other ones you posted too. I can't seem to find any pictures/videos of people using them for something other than under the hood lights. Mine are going to be mostly used for camp setup. One side of my rack has an awning. So that could be used to light the area while hanging out under that thing. I don't really need more than 20 feet (or so) illuminated around the vehicle.

Does anyone use those cyclone lights for reverse lights? I have a bed light kit right now and while I'm assuming comparatively it's not that bright, it is a perfect amount of light.

As for wiring, I think that's just me being lazy and not wanting to run wire from the battery again. I think I might run one more wire and then run all four from the one wire. I'd want to be able switch the three locations independently. If I did go with the cyclone lights, I think they would be fine off of one wire.

@Taylor@KC HiLiTES I picked up one of the clear cyclone lights you guys carry and I think it will work perfectly! They are pretty bright.

I understand the word diffused, but what's the difference between the clear and diffused option? I'm thinking maybe one clear for the rear and one diffused on each side. But I'm curious how different the (less light?) the diffused is vs the clear lens. I'd probably be leaving the side light on and hanging out with it that way more than the rear so diffused would make more sense, unless the light output is drastically decreased.

Yeah so being a fogged/diffused lens you will definitely loose some of that overall output but that might be better for more confined spaces such as in a cab. It also may be easier to look at if you try and stare at the thing. But that said, I would stick with clear for your purposes. No point in sacrificing output for your camp set up!

Also, did you get it at 4WP? If so, did they have a big light display? My local one does and I always press every button when I'm in the store buying crap haha.

Oh and for the reverse light question I missed...Yes some people do use them for that purpose. You can find videos of it on YouTube by searching cyclone lights.
