Im mobile so without counting them by hand idk, but we should be getting close to that number
We've also been asking for people to Pm us tracking info if they have shipped, so the numbers should be less than 30 if you account those

Maybe it's just me but it seems like some of these packages are skirting the $20 minimum. I know that the price of gifts isn't everything but I'd hope that in the future people who aren't in a position to meet the minimum choose not to enroll in TWSS. Call me a grinch if you want :anonymous::crapstorm:

Agree with this to an extent.

It definitely is a buzz kill when someone spends a lot of time and energy picking a gift for someone ($5, $50, or $500) and they receive it and their person is super stoked on it, and then they get their gift and it's something they can't use or something that has no obvious effort put into it. I think the biggest bummer isn't in the monetary value of what people get, but in the assumed lack of effort some are putting into their gifts, whether or not they're trying to hit the jackpot with someone else and walk away like a bandit, or not.

Definitely not what TWSS was intended for, it's about giving - nobody should be concerned with what they get. If that was the reality of it, then everybody would be getting great gifts regardless of what the cost was because (a) they're a gift from a stranger and (b) hopefully they have some thought behind them which is more valuable than the price tag.

All that aside, $20 minimum is what it is. If someone gets a $20 gift card and someone else gets a supercharger, that's how the cards fall.

    This.

I had a good year, and I got someone who I feel deserves a little extra for his efforts around here so I chose to go a shade over the top and reward him as such. I can't guarantee that I will even be in the position to do that next year.

As mentioned before... you put some thought into my gift and I am a happy camper (as I am this year). I'll probably wear that shirt enough that people start to make mention of how much I wear it. I refuse to play party to a virtual Internet points contest to see who can spend the most on a SS gift. I don't want people thinking they have to spend a ton of money, but I think that if someone is only playing along to hit the "lottery" they are in it for all the wrong reasons.

    Word.

The shirt was an example of something with effort behind it that exceeded it's purchase price. That's what makes a great gift.

Getting $20 worth of Sharpie markers like will spoil the TWSS idea for many, and rightly so. Both meet the requirements, but obviously $20 in one hand can't be measured by $20 in the other and the gifts will reflect that.

I'd like to see more creativity and more personal gifts than anything high dollar.

It's easy to spend money, it's not easy to get a great gift.

It is never easy and often impossible to understand what might be happening in another person's life. For some $20 could reflect more of a sacrifice for them then if someone else spent $2000. The spirit of TWSS is what you give, not what you receive. The nature of human beings is that some will give more than they can afford and some will be hurt by what they receive. Sometimes you are ahead of the game, sometimes you are behind. Most of the time the race is more with yourself than with others. Hopefully people sign up for TWSS for the right reasons and I think the vast majority do. I think and hope selfish people tend not to want to participate in things like this. I spent too much and received too much but I was most happy with hopefully spreading some joy to someone I have never met and probably won't ever meet. I would have loved to see their expression when they opened the package. That is what drives me to return each year.

Excellent points across the aboard James.
Basically just saved me a ton of typing and all you from another one of my "book like" posts in here.

The only thing I might add is that sometimes unforeseen events happen. Some of our participants have family that have fallen ill, themselves have fallen ill, or maybe in the recent month have had hard times put upon them due to uncontrollable variables.

Maybe it's just the optimist in me, but I'd like to believe out of the 200+ participants, we don't have anyone that joins just to receive a gift more valuable than they intend on sending.

Even the "Bad Santas" have stories, unfortunately we have not heard them. Some things are not meant for a internet forum to know. I mean, look at @AR15xAR10 . He hasn't joined TWSS the past 4 years because he's scared to give out his address.
