Was chatting with some guys from out west recently. All were fabricators and I was telling them about my mounting issues with front bumpers. Basically it all came down to the OEM factory front body mount bushings. I'll take a pic in the morning now that my bumper is off. Those things are squished AF. Driver side has 1/4 shim. Sits perfect now.

Naw. Got one. But wondering why you won't get the "lean" if you don't use yours.

Bumpers mount to the frame horns. There are 6 bushings that isolate the cab from frame, four cab mounts, and two for core support (radiator). I've replaced them all with poly.

I'm assuming your referring to the core support ones. My opinion is that the factory core support ones are too weak and small and should be replaced. It is not uncommon for them to tear, rip or outright collapse. They affect fender to bumper clearance which is probably what your issue is.

My advice is get the energy suspension Universal kit very well worth the $25.

Please see the links below for pictures and description.

    Thank you very much. :)

Oh my truck leans... It used to real bad when truck wasn't carrying a load. In addition to the gas tank , starting battery, and other stuff that contributed to the standard taco lean, I had ARB twin compressor, auxiliary battery, fire extinguisher, water, etc. All on driver side. ARB fridge, and swing gate with tire on passenger side help balance it out some.

I guess what it boils down to is function over form for me.

    Welcome.

    Your truck will thank you.

Have you ever run across anyone that has taken the actual travel measurements on the Dakar's doing it the "right" way? I've googling around on and off for a couple days and searching on here and I can't find anyone that's actually done it and posted it. You'd think with all the people using them someone would have done it.

    Whats the "right" way?

I'd be interested to know the average travel of dakars myself.

As I understand to check "true" uptravel you have to disassemble the pack, reinstall just the top leaf and compress it. I could definitely be wrong on that as I have never done it before and haven't run across a written+photographic guide on how to do it.

I believe it establishes the upper limit of your leaf pack movement, so you don't bottom out and damage your shock. Once again, I am not certain of all of this, I have never seen someone write out and photograph the entire process.

Wonder why they do this? Wouldn't you want to know the up travel with a fully assembled pack, since that is how its used? Sorry, dont know much about this topic.

I'm not completely certain, but taking measurements on a flat level surface (like in a garage) with a full leaf pack wouldn't account for real world scenarios like driving up a steep incline with the rear articulated, a great deal of weight would shift to the rear and compress the leafs more than on a level surface.

The right way to cycle leaf suspension is to use main spring only and a block of aluminum or wood under it equal to the height of missing leaves. The reason for this is the main spring governs what is possible. It's the best way to check for clearance issues.

Also of value is to measure eye to eye with string and take vertical perpendicular measurement from center pin to string.

    No.

I've never seen anyone do this on TW. It's a lot of work and it's my opinion that most people just want beefier leaf pack to carry loads, or support additional expo weight etc.

Uptravel is defined by the main leaf. Once it is flat that is where bump should be set. A fully assembled pack will still go flat at the same point it just takes more force to do so. Therefore stripping it down makes it an easy task for checking.

I have read in a couple places that the Dakars are designed to go negative, is that a thumb rule for all leaf packs?

I can actually make my Dakars go negative with a full leaf pack with just a floor jack.

Any pack can go negative. You just lose life expectancy on it doing so since it deforms the metal opposite the initial arch.

My leaf pack I can't do that. Your Dakars must be pretty soft.
