Well you are our only lady in here & we need to make you feel special every now & then, especially after all those sammiches you made.

 

I didn't even look at rates to be honest. They quoted some bullshit 3.5% "base rate for quoting purposes". I'm assuming I could have gotten a lot better but not really interested. I think even at 1.49% it would be around $1k interest depending on the length of the loan. I prefer to just pay it upfront and not worry about it.

 

I understand not having it hanging over your head. But your giving up 4500 dollars invested at 4% over 5 years.

While that could be true it is always a gamble. I would rather not play that game and hope that my portfolio continues to perform well. If it doesn't then you could be double screwed. I thought about it pretty hard but decided against it. I'd rather pay it off and not screw with it or worry about it.

What my wife and I do is instead make monthly "car" payments to ourselves and invest that money until it is needed. It is almost the same idea but then I'm not trying to out play the percentage on the auto loan. By the time we pay for the next vehicle the extra interest has accrued.

Same thing my dad did but in a different interest rate environment. Now it almost crazy not to spend someone elses money. We will never see these rates again.
