What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

It's not super awesomely detailed but it has the turbo stuff I've done. The rest is basically what many others have, CO's, UCA's and what not. Thanks for asking!

Doesn't hold as much fluid as the stock reservoir, but then again that makes it a lot easier to mount in different places. I put mine near the firewall on the passenger side of the engine bay, I think I moved the cruise control module forward a bit to get it to fit. If you have ABS, that may be in the way.
Edit: just saw the price went up to 25 from 15 when I bought it a year ago. Might look around for a better deal.

 

Very nice. It never crossed my mind that there might be different sized aftermarket reservoirs. I was thinking about random jugs and bottles. Ha ha.

 

I have a 5 lug 4 banger. 300k miles.
Was having problems with my truck stalling and just shutting off. Especially when I had my clutch pushed in. Or on starting it would fire then run if i gased it but die after i let off the gas. And by the second time turning it on it would be fine. I Changed fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, checked the air and vacuum lines nothing. Even reset the ECU like 5 times. Same problem. Had a check engine light but it was for a carb so welded in a new one but same stalling problem.

I ended up finding the spray seafoam spraying it into the engine. And so far no problems . It was pretty fun to do.

But I think I may need to adjust my timing or increase my idle. Or I was thinking it may be my fuel pump too. If it happens again I will probably do one of the 3.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?
I also tried adding some fuel additives cause maybe something is blocked somewhere.

Also the pic is a year ago when I was hauling like 30 bags of concrete. I'm surprised my truck held up

I would pull the throttle body and clean it really well along with the IAC. Also clean your mass air flow sensor.

Timing and idle speed are not adjustable.

Idle speed is controlled by the iac. I am confident that it is dirty based on what you have said.

Definitely clean the mass air flow sensor. It will make a huge difference in your air/fuel ratio if it is dirty. I also like to clean the throttle body periodically. I had a stuttering issue under wide open throttle that was ultimately caused by old spark plugs but just cleaning the MAF and throttle body made a significant difference. Idk if I would go all the way to fuel pump just yet, clean the MAF and TB and check your fuel filter.

 

I can't speak from experience with the four banger in your truck, but I had a car with the same issue and it ended up being an issue with the mass airflow sensor (MAF) so you might try cleaning that especially if you use an oiled air filter. Just my two cents worth.

I'll definitely be doing some cleaning this weekend or next. I had taken the maf sensor off to inspect it but it didn't look dirty. But I'll get some cleaner to clean that and the throttle body. Might clean the intake/exhaust manifold too. While I'm at it.

I was going to hold off on the fuel pump as my last resort.

Make sure you get MAF sensor cleaner, other cleaners are too harsh

 

Ive always used 91% alcohol, submerge the whole thing. Same with ICVs.

 

That'd be alot cheaper... MAF cleaner is upwards of $5 a can for something you rarely use

 

I use it at least once per year, for general maintenance. Well worth it, to help insure a well-running Toyota.

 

I sort of want to try that but don't want to fry the sensor and end up shelling out more money for a new one.

True but I may just bite the bullet. Peace of mind and I can clean my families cars too. Also I have 20$ rewards at auto zone so might pick up some cleaners and a grease gun while I'm there.

 

The milk would get hot and spoil beside the hot engine, silly.

 

Read on what a 'hot film sensor' is. There is nothing to 'fry', but you can foul it.

 

Just did this like two weeks ago. Used a $2 container from walmart and just checked levels this week and it's still holding strong.
