I did the same thing to my wheels last summer as a test to see if I liked the fully blacked out wheels. It ended up staying on for about 6 months before it started pealing in some areas. Winter and highway driving ended up doing it in, but since I liked it so much, I ended up properly painting my wheels.

OP if you're still here... How have they held up so far? If I can get a year out of plastidip on my truck I'll do it. I just threw some 2nd gen Taco rims on my 3rd gen. They're suffering from the sale clear coat peeling everyone's does, so I need to refinish the surface first before plastidip.

If you or anyone else still have your truck/rims, how did the plastidip hold up?

I can not speak from personal experience but a coworker did the same job to his 15 over 1.5 years ago and he has nothing bad to say. He has done a touch up once last winter. The PNW can take a toll at times.

Did you ever plastidip your wheels? If so, how are they holding up?

I have pressured washed my Front cover center that i did and no problems. I couple times in the mud and I was waiting for it to come off. It stayed on. Its all about the prep work and the amount you use. On my center i used almost the whole can it that one part. But it was worth it because over a year later in the Vegas heat and i cant tell you how many times hit with a pressure wash straight on, no damage.

my buddy did his wheels and used a can per wheel. Until he curb it no problems. Washed and everything. Just make sure you do the prep really well first.

I have had my oem winter wheels dipped for 3 maine winters. No peeling yet. Still look new. Really the same damage that would hurt plastidip will also affect paint.
    (Rocks..ect)
Difference being paint thats chipped and/or damaged usually requires much more prep work..sanding surface flat before repainting.
Plastidip I just peel and redip.

I'm loving seeing all the positive responses. I've been toying with the idea of plasti dip on my wheels and emblems. Looks like I know what to ask for for Father's Day. Out of curiosity, did anyone get a kit or just cans from Home Depot or Lowe's?

I did. Walmart was cheapest in my area.
Black works fine. Plastidip Glossifier has a matte & gloss. ( it's a clear with uv protection.) Seems to hold up even better.

Dipyourcar makes a "dip coat" spray (like quick wax but $20) that will take away the rubbery feel and helps resist scratching.

I use cans on everything other than when I did my wife's whole car. Then I used an hvlp sprayer and ordered gallons from dipyourcar .com

    Yours look amazing!!!

We did ours about a month ago, and actually without a ton of cleaning, because we forgot to get some good cleaner at the auto parts store. I cleaned with basic household glass cleaner (haha!) and still a month later, they are doing great! Will update again after several more months, but they have survived 2 car washes thus far!

I did my emblems about 8 months ago, been through the car was numerous times and still holding up really well. My wheels are already black alloy so I didnt need to do those, thinking about doing my hood scoop though.
