So truck was just delivered today, went to go see it can't actually take it home since I can't get insurance till the new year since broker is closed until 4th January but still went to go drive it. Noticed while driving you could really feel the gear changes as you drove.

Normal? Or is this something that one of those TSB updates is for?
Or is this literally something that will just go away as its worked in. Truck only had 2km on it so not sure if its just because its brand new or what?
    US built model. TRD OR

    and before someone says :worthless:
Haven't even finished installing all the add ons (tonneau, block heater etc)

Personally, while the engine is cold the shifts are harder. Once it's warmed up (and transmission fluid is) it feels extremely smooth. If it's NOT smooth while the engine is warmed up completely, have them check for the TSB rev1 and also the physical fluid check. The fluid needs to be cold to check it properly, so since it's already at the dealer.....

Ya they already said they will be finishing the transmission fluid check next week. That was an agreement with the sale. They will check it on delivery properly while cold to make sure it was filled properly as they are aware it was a known issue with the 2016s

It smooths out... after 12k miles I can hardly tell when my truck shifts now when in the higher gears. I really only notice it if I'm looking at the tach.

I DID have the 1st release of the TSB done back in July but that was to address the R to D delay, never really had a shifting problem.

Ok that's great to hear, and it sounds like they know what I'm talking about too.

Personally, the harder shifts are common in both my wife's 4Runner (less so) and my Tacoma. But once the engines are warm, they are very smooth. If you experience anything else, they might need to check it out. You'll probably be good to go, you gotta drive a few miles (or kms) to get the engine warm, just idling it in 2C weather is gonna take forever.

Since you've been on the site a while I don't see why you're asking if the gear shifting is normal and its tendencies. It's a known issue since last year.

Its BECAUSE he's been here awhile reading about his pending truck purchase.

Everytime he drives it he's going to be paranoid and listening for diff howl, LCA howl, squeaks, leaky sunroof, leaky rear window, drive line vibes, steering wheel vibes, OR brake pedal vibes, mad that his passenger floormat doesn't stay put, expecting his CPS to fail, wondering WHY it hasn't failed yet and looking at his front and rear doors for two tone paint.

All of that TW research has made him now ready to really enjoy his truck. :D

@jsinnard Haha. Sad but true. Statistically you'll be fine. My truck has been solid. Most have. Just go have fun once the dealership hands it over.

Ya I went for a drive after once it warmed up seemed a bit better. But still only went for like a 7km drive.

Just wasn't sure if it was normal or a part of the known issues and TSB.

Otherwise everything looks good. There was a slight scuff on the driver rear door, but was almost all the way gone with just rubbing it by hand so with a proper buffing should be fine.

It kinda isn't. I mean I'm not a big fan of cold, but the last time it snowed (EVER) here was December 4th and 5th of 2007. I have pictures. I made the world saddest snowman.

oh I'm well aware of it being a known issue and usually addressed by the TSB. what I wasn't sure is if this was just becasue it was cold and brand new.
Considering it only has 2km on the odometer
