VW Buyback for a Taco

you are in correct. Sticker was $65243 and 2 year lease 15k a year had residual of $49584.00. Then I added 5 year warranty that if I would of leased would not come into play and would not of purchased and that was an additional $3500. I should have included the $3500 warranty. My bad. So really call it 14k difference and I would just have to sell my extended warranty that hasn't been used if we got rid of it which really hasn't even got by the 36k bumper to bumper so really should be 100% refund at this time. I guess I am more upset that they are not even letting us know yet what is real or not real. I do think if they make us fix it and no buy back that they should have to pay us the $14k difference and really more than that knowing the crap we are stressing over not knowing what the deal has been since it came to surface.

 

I am not after anything for free!! As long as they make sure we do not have to take a hit financially due to what they did is all that I care about. MAybe they will let us know what the details of agreement are by next week.

 

True but residual and trade-in are two entirely different animals. Your warranty is refundable so it shouldn't count towards any amount due from vw. As for them not letting you know, it's not vw's fault the 3.0 isnt resolved yet, they are still resolving that issue and the court settlement side. Give it some time.

Well, idk your financial situation, but if you financed and have gap then a wreck could offset the depreciation you occurred.. best of luck with that. You can maybe claim depreciation from vehicles on taxes depending on profession I think. I know I can.

I think you are hoping way for too much. Bought my 2012 toureg exec for around $60,000 fresh off the truck. Hated it and tried to get rid of it 6 months later with not even 8,000 miles on it to get a car. Most I was ever offered was $44,000 and a few places wouldn't even consider it for a trade because the toureg doesn't have a good market and they didn't want to be stuck with it. I bet my local dealer hasn't even sold one exec TDI ever and maybe just a very few Toureg at all! It's a nice vehicle, but so uncomfortable seats on long drives. I got it to replace the Q7 TDI, but the Q7 is so much nicer and comfortable. I'll keep it.

 

well my wife loves hers. best vehicle she has every liked including the 04 gx470 she had till she got this one. I still have the gx. I really like the vw too. Very well put together and tight and ours is very comfortable. We tested all the other suvs from Lexus/Infinity/Audi/ Range Rover and bmw. We liked the clean interior of the VW and loved how it handles. The Porche had too many knobs and buttons. Don't know about resale of them just went off lease on 2 yr 30k was a 49k residual if we would of did that if we wanted to buy it instead of turn it in if we leased. We will see what they come up with but many car owners that had 28k msrps and getting 24k on buy back on their 14s. Guess ill wait and see.

 

what i would expect from it would be to walk away with the amount you would be likely able to sell at private party. Thats been about the overall compensation.

With that, take the amount you paid for it, divide by years owned and you will see a drastically cheap vehicle to drive for that time period. I essentially paid $100/month to have a sel passat for 3 years, walked away with some cash, not much but some. Im not mad at all. I ended up buying a B8 A4 quattro for my wife, and I dont regret it in the slightest. I was at the point where my CPO warranty was up, car had 92K on it now so selling it back was the smart choice. I got a cpo A4 with 100K warranty for slightly more than my passat with 1/4 the miles for buy out amount.

I think the core issue here, is people stop viewing cars as depreciating assets when theres buyouts in-place. The reality is buying something like a euro barge cash is always a poor idea (unless 70K is couch money). They depreciate so fast, because there isnt a huge secondary market for them until they hit sub 30K. My 2007 a6 was a 59K car, that fetched 7K when I traded it in on the passat in '13.

 

Go grab a Q7 premium plus with tech, theyre fucking spaceships. Buddy has one and it is hands down the best lux suv ive ever been in.

 

depreciation is a bitch on the big guys. The reality is if you like it, keep it, take the cash, drive it into the dirt. Eventually it'll be worth more once 500K plus tdi's are taken off the road. People will still want them, the same people who bought them for their efficiency, still will want them in 2 years when there are few left.

 

If you love it, why don't you just keep it?

 

yep. this is our plan because wife loves it and we have 100000k warranty which still has 4 yrs left which includes all electronics on car if they go out like cameras or radio or nav or whatever. Normal wear items on us. Engine trans and any emissions related items is covered.

 

my point was if we the fix changed it and it wasn't the same or started having issues. But we will hope for best and they compensate us fairly and the fix they do doesn't mess up the performance or egr

 

You'll suffer some performance loss, im about 400% positive your wife wont notice it, and you'll probably barely. If anything it'll just increase burn cycle and you'll notice it periodically more. Thats really all its doing, running the dpf system less than it should, and i'd bet they'll be forced to cover the dpf system longer for people who choose to keep the vehicles.

EFT email received last night at 8:26PM, promptly completed. Let's see how long it takes for VW to refund the $800 overpayment of the last 2 payments and close out the loan.

 

Just received my offer letter this morning for exactly what I was expecting. Getting ready to get it notarized and upload it back. I hope the buyback date is sooner rather than later. I have 4 VW dealerships within 20 miles of me so hopefully one of them can get me in. Then off to the Toyota Dealership to pick up my Taco.
