But we are leaving this Mexican slum next year and moving to the Eastern Sierras. Traveling with our tear drop we have hit some bad weather and plan on some winter camping so I am looking for truck and trailer protection.

What about WD-40? That was the original intent of this stuff to displace water, and prevent rust.

When I used to ride, I tried all kinds of the latest, and greatest chain lubes. All attracted dirt (which speeds the wear of the chain), and ultimately just ended up using good ole WD. worked as well, if not better. Just needed to lube it more often was all.

Obviously a different application, but it's an oil that protects from corrosion, and doesn't attract dirt/debris.

X2 - These aren't being installed after doing the LSC when they should be, all the newer 2nd generations have them installed from the factory for a reason and I know they will extend the longevity of your frame.

I think you've been reading rust threads too often and it has you paranoid. There's really no need for rust prevention in SD.

Edit: I see you're moving to the sierras.

WD will dry out rubber components and stink..... not as much as FF though.

I would say based on what every frame pic I've seen shows (including my own), that the plug kit would probably do more than FF, or any other frame coating would for the Tacoma frame issue. They all rotted from the inside out. In fact I always thought my frame looked pretty good for a 10 year old truck that lived it's whole life in NH (besides the obvious holes by the cats). Only a little surface rust visible here, and there.

It says it in the CRC .pdf. To paraphrase: "Install to prevent salty spray from entering the frame".

WD would be like a sweet perfume compared to FF.

Plug kit will help a little but nothing like fluid film. Your still going to get spray up in the frame.

I saw a YouTube video of a previous FF user change over to chain bar oil used for chainsaws. He said that type of oil would adhere better than FF, but is harder to apply, so you may have to thin it out before applying.

If I had to pick one over the other, I would go with the plugs. I definitely advocate getting some type of coating inside the frame if you can. I like the idea of something that doesn't attract dirt/debris though.

The dirt and dust that sticks to fluid film actually helps make a better protective barrier. Don't put too much faith in that plug kit you may end up sorry.

At this point, I have FF, and the plug kit. Not much more I can do. Not too crazy about the FF though. It'll do for this winter, but looking for alternatives for future winters.

That stuff looks promising. I like the comment about no sticky residue.

Wow ! Don't get no betta then dat - thanks man. Just thought of a question - do you have a 4.0 or 2.7 ? That would effect the part number for the plugs - I have a 2.7. Thanks.

    No problem brah.

As far as a difference in kits, I'm not sure. I would think there wouln't be any difference. In either case, the kit I ordered, was the part number I got from @Markcal, who also has a 2.7. I have the 4.0, and everything fit.
