As per Toyota's recent power train announcements, I would bet their new corporate 2.5L engine replaces the 2.7L within a few years. The 2017 Highlander Hybrid technology which is mated to the current Tacoma engine will also be added to the Tacoma within the next two years.

2018 will see Toyota Safety Sense added and after the redesigned Tundra is in production the Tacoma will gain an 8- speed transmission to compete with the Colorado and redesigned 2018 Nissan Frontier.

No matter what they do it will never be enough power. The first toyota p/u had 84hp, first tacoma 142hp, first tacoma V-6 190hp. Even the first tundra had 245hp. And now we have the available 278hp and still not enough..yea, it's not enough for me either :frusty:

In 2018 I'd like to see the new Ford Ranger and Jeep pickups light a fire under Toyota and Mike Sweers' butt.

previous two gens were barely changed for 10 years.
not sure I see toyota doing anything different for the current one.
at least not for the next 5 years or so.

But ya hybrid is definitely a lot more likely than a V8

I want them to make the Entune system more user friendly, allow us more settings from the Entune, such as lane change blink amounts. In my opinion, the best thing they can do is refine what they put out, that will help that reliability reputation.

Go 4.30 across the board...so the slush box guys stop complaining!

Really, the truck is pretty good as is. If it could just live up to quality of the past.

How about a Canada setting on the heater and a heated steering wheel? At -25C it takes a long time to warm up. Driving with the defog setting there is a little heat coming out the driver door side, I take a glove off and thaw that hand. My other gloved hand grips an icy cold wheel since no heat comes from the center vents. Power tailgate lock, seems silly that I have to go after market to get this. Clearance in the wheel wells for 285's without lift. Off roads should have come with 265/75/16 Duratracs and a lower diff gear package like the old SR5's had.

I would gladly pay for some sort of cold weather package that included a heated steering wheel!

Haha, it has to be less though! Trucks have gotten so expensive everyone complains yet they want more content for less money. Cracks me up, the same people crying about the price also cry why it doesn't have certain features a compact car has.

Our Canyon has Android auto, wasn't too impressed with it. It took away most the other features on the phone and was unable to play music from my phone while navigating through google maps. Hope they send more updates to give it more availability to use your phone. I love the idea of navigation going away and using google maps as it is much more up to date and has traffic and is already on your phone, no need to pay $500 for factory nav you can't update. We will see, I am sure we will get more updates as I really want to see it work to its full potential both on the phone and through car play/auto.

I don't think the Manual is available in SR5 Trim, I think you have to drop down to just SR Trim.

Hence the post in the changes wanted for 2018. Doesnt matter since I already have mine....but its completely arbitrary that a manual v6 isnt an option in SR5.

I just hang mine between the prongs. I feel like that's what the little zig zag is for. Maybe not. But it works!
