When it comes time to paint the sliders, what do you guys suggest? Something like the Rust-Oleum bedliner rattle can, a paint on type, or something different? Looking something that is easy to touch up and as inexpensive as it can be while actually doing its job.

 

I used rustoleum semi gloss with self etching primer

How many cans did you need for the whole job?

 

Get 5. Bet you use it all. You loose a lot to the wind if you do this outside.

So go with the self etching first, essentially as a base coat, and then apply the hammered paint afterwards? Still a few cans of each, or will I need less of each since I am spreading the job across two products?

I love Indian food.

 

Self etching primer, 1 good coat. Then the textured bed liner. It looks like crinkle powder coat, but grips better.

 

Bed liner is what I was thinking initially, partly because of its grippiness. I certainly do like the idea of the self ethcher as a base.

 

If you want it to stick, use good primer. I use the headliner on my Demellos, if I had it to do over I'd order them raw steel.

I also use that on my armor, and it holds up well.

 

Yes I think that exact one. I think I used 2/3 cans of primer and 3/4 cans of paint

I POR 15 mine and prep'd them really good with the degreaser and etcher then rustoleum rattle can them and they have held really really good to stepping on them type of wear and held up great to the elements.... the only rust spots on mine are where I have actually dragged then on rocks/dirt and nicks from the tires kicking rocks to them...

 

POR15 and Rust-Oleum? What type of layering did you do?

 

I did 2 really thin coats of the POR and multiple (can't remember but 3 or 4) of rustoleum flat/texture
