I have an 08 6spd DCSB with 133K and not a single issue with the tranny other than the squeaky TOB which was replaced by Toyota. My buddies dodge has a noisy TOB as well. Other than that, The tranny is fine. I love it.

The manual might be better than the automatic but then maybe not so much, endless debate however, as for me, I will never own an automatic.

Yep, nothing beats a good manual for me, but I realize that my needs and outlook on almost everything are unusual, LOL. I do enjoy honest dialogue about real differences,..not so much about baseless opinions

It might have something to do with having some where around 55 years of driving under my belt and every rig I've ever owned has been the trusty manual... I cant see any reason to change now.

Some people don't even realize they can push start a vehicle, and even fewer have actually done it. I was with a friend in a suburban with auto a couple of months ago. The battery got a shorted cell and we were dead in the water till a friend delivered a battery. I would have just pushed mine and got it going. I'm sure those things live in your past too :)

Oh I know it, my boss has a Toyota car with a manual and his starter when out on him while sitting there in the parking lot, we both gave it a push, I jumped in, popped the clutch and he was able to drive it to the shop without having to have it towed.

I love the 6 speed in my 2014 access cab. Could the gearing ratios be better? Sure. Having complete control over your gearing, or allowing a computer to do it for you is the question. Mechanically, it is easy to maintain, simple to overhaul, and won't overheat pulling or climbing hills. But it comes down to personal preference, when I'm drinking coffee on the go in traffic it crosses my mind that having an automatic would be nice. :)

I had the starter fail on one of my old cars out in the middle of nowhere Kentucky, it was so nice for me to just give it a shove jump in and drive off!

Six forward speeds in a truck transmission, and somehow they avoided a granny gear AND an overdrive......

They have their pros and cons, for my off roading style I prefer auto. On the street or back roads I want a manual. I miss hopping in my 81 Toyota pickup and shifting through the gears. Old and beat up it worked pretty damn well. Some don't know about the push start which had saved my ass in that before. As stupid as it seems and I'm not old I've just had a lot of old vehicles I like the foot button for the high beams

I wonder if they reasoned that if it had a granny gear that we might attempt to haul bigger loads than we should.

In the article mentioned above the guy is bias towards the manual and even he seems to indicate that the auto is better for hardcore wheelin', as for me I do go off road now and then but nothing serious like rock crawling or nutin so yah, I'll stick to my manual.
