It might have been a demo truck that Seatbelt Mike flew to Hawaii when he promoted the "almighty" PRO.

Did somebody take it to a parking lot and just roast the clutch? Perhaps a disgruntled Toyota employee?

With 26 miles I would guess that it had been test frove at least twice or as someone else mentioned taken home by a salesperson or mechanic for the weekend. I bet that's where the damage occurred and it just took 600 to finally fail. trucks that are brand new have about 10 miles or less on them when they're on the lot so someone somewhere drove it before you got it. I would push for an extended warranty.

I feel for you . If this came from serious abuse , think of the damage from improper break in of the engine .

If I am correct , something had to supply the power to the clutch for the 26 miles to create that amount of wear . I think the engine had to be abused also.

Clutch is one thing but cv's are secondary. it would have grease everywhere if it was previous to clutch failure. Either tow truck driver or techs doin.

Nah man, this doesn't look like 600 miles of abuse. Looks like something failed, though I wouldn't rule out some dipshit having thrashed it pre-delivery.

For reference here's my Miata's clutch that I flogged the living shit out of with wide open throttle, red line shifts for about 300 miles after I knew it was slipping at full power:

I may have spun the tires a bit too. Possibly some 180s too. Maybe...:fingerscrossed:

Your pressure plate looks straight up scored, and your flywheel does not. Plus, your clutch plate looks like it de-laminated or something!
    This part is particularly suspect:
That ain't kosher. Those "threads" should not just come out in whole pieces. Usually with extreme wear it turns into a black dust that baptizes the poor sod who separates the tranny, not flakes like that.

Maybe a good time to find out if there is a 'black box" in the toyota . If there is it may have recorded some evidence of over reving etc.

That would work if it were just abused in the last run cycle or 2 but l doubt it would go back 600 Miles.

In some cases there is a counter. "Over Rev Events" or something like that. Increments up and saves it for the lifetime of the vehicle. For instance I know some high end sports cars with launch control have started to count how many times you used it, and this has been since years and years ago.

That would be good to know. I wondered if the auto manufacturers were monitoring their products for warranty situations just like this. Although an invasion of privacy , it would be valuable to insurance companies and the manufacturers and the government ........
Ive got my foil hat on now . ha ha ha .

I remember reading that in Car and Driver about 10? years or more ago. Some new car I could never afford was to be the last model year before it would have a box to record what you just said. I figured if they did it it was just a matter of time before they all did it . 1- 16 gig sd card would record a lot of data , and be really cheap.

Damage caused during 26 miles would be an outright failure.
That looks like accelerated wear from a part failing, binding, or failing to release.
Bad clutch hydraulics/throwout bearing not allowing a full release is my guess.

    Mostly stuff I built.

Did you piss off the Service Writer or a mechanic at the dealership? Those boots have been cut there would be grease everywhere in the area if you had been driving around with them like that.

You take in the truck with bad clutch. Service Writer calls BS on your story. Tells mechanic to make it look like you abused the truck. You eat the cost and they don't get screwed for the warranty rate. Seen this happen over and over again at dealerships I worked at in the past and most of the time to people who bought the higher end cars and trucks from what ever auto maker. They see the TRD Pro and think screw this guy and here you are sir.

I have seen many clutches damaged on shipping to the dealership. Some one at port or the transport truck driver probably smoked the clutch some where in the loading process.

Wow...plot thickens if that is the case. I guess we will see if the dealer tries to deny repair costs.

I just looked back at the pics and you are exactly correct. That truck has not been driven with that much grease coming out of the CV boot. In that picture the only place there is grease is on the boot. It would be all over if it had been driven like that. OP please keep updating as you go through this saga. Sorry about your luck and try to have a Merry Christmas.
