    So, my present day problem. Should I go with a bomb ass retrofit and halos or install my smittybilt 9.5xrc and probably have to get king coilovers to hold it and the bumper up.

    Retro- $700+/-
    Winch- already bought, kings- $900

    when you need a winch you probably really need a winch. when you need retrofits... well. do you ever really need retros?

    edit: i read that wrong... but either way choose function over form.

    Meh. As long as you have at least one other person to give you a hand, removing the bed is easier and gives you plenty of room to work.

    I have considered it, but I just never felt comfortable having it tilted up like that. Also, less room. But it gets the job done.

    set of Retros for sale in the 1st gen marketplace for $400. I was gonna scoop them up and sell mine for cheaper but they are black housing.

    My dad got me an ARE utility topper for Christmas, he found a bunch of them for sale for $100 from a pest control business that got a new fleet of trucks. He's probably gonna go back and get himself one too for that price, hahaha, I like it20161224_164027.jpg

    $100 is really cheap for a cap. Nice find! And bonus points for dad buying you truck parts :thumbsup:
    And did your truck never have fender flares? I don't recall seeing an '01-'04 without flares and not have holes in the fenders unless plugged after flare removal.

    No, mine is a base 4 cyl, I really only see fender flares on the ones with TRD packages or are 4wd, or 6 cyl, I think. My old 2003 2.7 prerunner w/o the TRD package didn't have them, either.
    He's got a 1999 2.7 4wd TRD reg cab, it's got fender flares.
    I got him new headlights and a pair of cube work lights, gonna mount and wire those in for him as soon as he decides where he wants them mounted, lol.

    So what you're telling is me is, to solve the holes-in-fender issue after removing flares, ya just gotta find a base truck that never had flares and swap the fenders lol. Unless there are other differences that prevent it.

    New lights make a huge difference. Even if it's just new bulbs. Good call.

    I quite like when you show off your truck.

    Both good points...makes sense.

    I'm going custom, d2s with rgb demon eye, rgb vehicle spec halos, and halo fogs in plate bumper.

    Yep, just look for a 4 cyl without TRD or 4wd, hahaha
    Got him some PIAA headlight bulbs too, he was complaining about how he couldn't see well at night, all the new lights should take care of that for him.

    Isn't that a 5 lug Tacoma? I doubt the fenders are different on a 6 lug.

    I was thinking more like is there anything mounted on the inside of fenders of more equipped trucks that would be lacking in lesser equipped ones.
