Exactly. Addiction is crazy. It takes control of your life. And you can try to help all you want, but the fact is, the other person has to be willing and able to go deeper than he/ she has ever gone before, to a darker place. You have to hit rock bottom, and hit it hard. Only then can changes be made. If he/ she comes back from that only to put themselves back there, it's too late. In my opinion. All you can do is be there.

So true. The Stages of Change is a great way to comprehend the cycle of addiction. The individual has to realize it is a problem before they can make any changes. For some that is hitting rock bottom, others its being in a scary situation that is less severe, but the end result is the same.
