Definitely an improvement over what I previously had but I wish I had done more research when buying coilovers. I'm a little mind made up on Fox just cause I've run their mountain bike forks and shocks for a while and have been really pleased with them. I'm not sure how the quality transfers over for vehicles as I haven't ridden in a Fox equipped vehicle but I have heard they don't weather as well as some of the other brands. I'm not in an immediate rush for new coilovers as I don't have the cash sitting around right now but the Icons will be coming off.
I don't think I'll ever be as opposed to Icon as you are haha but I can tell you I'm not impressed and am surprised how much of the market they rule

550, damn you trying to ride on a cloud?

This, for a lot less you can get them revalved to better suit your needs and preferences. Probably be cheaper and could do it yourself.

I had Fox and Icon on my 2000 and honestly couldn't tell between the two but I also had them 20k apart and the icons needed rebuilding. I did like my fox a lot and recommend them although they rust a bit more so might not be best for your environment.

Any of you know if 4th gen coils work on a 3rd gen? I know FJ do and pretty sure 4th gen are the same.

Just to clear up some mis-information here. For reference, I have owned about 15 3rd gen's, every model from 96-02. They are my favorite vehicle to flip.

They still installed rear lockers from the factory through 2002. Also, the 4wd system is still true, 4H is just push button.
The only year that had a spring that different was '99; the front coils are taller. All the other year spring differences are negligible.

I need to flex easier in the slow speed stuff
Not true. The last year of the rear diff lock was 2000 on 3rd gen 4Runners. The locker you're thinking of on 2001 and 2002 4Runners is the center diff lock, which effectively turns the AWD setup into a true 4WD where it binds when you turn.

I have owned more than one of them, in fact I just flipped an '02 with it. And I know the difference between the rear locker and the center diff lock. I'll see if I have a picture of the one I just sold.

Well if it had a rear elocker, it either wasn't an 01 or 02 or it was swapped in. It is a known fact that the elocker wasn't available after 2000.

I'm none too impressed with my first tank mileage on my '98... 14.4 mpg. Looks like its time to pull the EFI fuse, and make her chug some Seafoam. Maybe change out the upstream o2 sensor as well.

Not even that big of a difference haha. They're nice for sure, but they aren't life changing. Once I wear these out I'll buy some Brembo blanks and decent pads.

Here's a not very documented mod. Swapping in a radiator from a 1995 Toyota Tacoma, 2WD, 4 cylinder. It's 5 inches shorter than my stock radiator. Distance from the ground to the bottom of radiator was 21 inches, afterwards it was 26 inches. Everything bolts up. You'll need a lower radiator hose from the same vehicle. And you need to cut the lower and upper fan shroud slightly.

Radiator ends above my frame rails now. Which means my new front bumper can come back almost 4 inches from where the standard frame rail end cap is.

It's not life changing but any decline I definitely appreciated them. Like I said before though, not as necessary for a 5 speed as you can just downshift to stop.
