    @brendanwebster911 figure it this way.

You're going to press Start once you get in the truck either way. With the remote start the truck will be warmed up or cooled off. Still a good benefit.

You're right. I do agree its much more convenient. I just cringe at the idea that i have to start my truck twice. more wear on starter and other engine components I figure.

But, im warming up to the idea that this is the only way...

Do you think about wear on the starter when you need to make six stops on the way home from work and figure you'd better skip three of them? :p

I ordered it and received it. Now I'm debating on installing it, because of the door issue. Why can it not be controlled like every other auto start? I have had 4 cars with auto start and they all turned off depressing the brake pedal. You cant get the car in gear without depressing the pedal anyway.

    Because Toyota.

This same hardware will do takeover on other brands that allow for it (or have been cracked), but it is what it is for PTS Tacomas.

Either way you'll push the Start button when you get in the truck. The difference is whether the truck is warmed up (winter) or cooled off (summer) before you get in it. Your choice.

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

Of course you would once or three times to disengage the brake pedal from turning off the car.

Ok, let me digress how another auto start worked for me. I had a 2009 Nissan Murano with auto start put in later by a dealer. The way you activated the auto start was to press the lock 3 times. It would turn off the engine if you pressed the brake pedal(Toyota is using the door to shut the motor). In order for the engine to stay on, The start/stop button would have to be pressed 3 times ,Then depress the brake & put it in gear and go. Make more sense?

It might not be the best but it should be an option.

Where you were going is more clear, thanks.

In a perfect world we could get in the truck and it'd sense the smartkey and let us simply press start once or something and allow shifting into gear and going.

My point was that doesn't exist and there's no indication that it will exist in the forseeable future. That leaves owners with the choice of eschewing remote start altogether or installing one with the existing limitations.

I'd imagine a high probability that if DEI does solve the problem you may be able to just reflash an installed DBALL2.

Worst case you install a new remote start and reusing the existing taps you'd already made. In the intervening months (or years) you'd still be enjoying a good benefit. Or maybe they never do solve it and the folks waiting for "perfect" never get any benefit.

Cracks me up that people starting their cars for extra amounts of time discuss extra wear on the starter....you're adding extra wear to EVERYTHING.

    Mine gets delivered tomorrow.

We packed about 40 units yesterday, and will do another big pile today, but yesterday and today are holidays for the Post Office.

You'll see movement on the tracking tomorrow.

    Nope.

That one you need to skin with a razor blade or pocket knife.

I actually separated the strands of the large wire and ran the other wire through it.
