Son of a bitch, a threaded lid is genius.

My only gripe about my titanium sets is the shitty fitting lids. :jellydance:

I made a titanium stand for my Borde.
The other stove, the big one, is a German NATO dieselkocher. An awesome camp stove. Burns kerosene.

What are your go to puffy jackets? I'm looking for something that will be good all around.
    I'm looking for something that:
    • Will pack down around the size of a softball
    • Have a hood
    • Synthetic or dry treated down
    • Will be used mostly in temps from ~10deg F to 40deg F
I don't do a ton of backpacking and when I do the trails are usually pretty short (less than 20 miles total, not more than ~15 miles in a day. Going to be used a lot while out climbing and hiking/exploring.

I already have a decent rain jacket (Marmot Precip) so I don't need anything that is totally waterproof, I can always layer the 2. Wind resistant would be great however.

I've narrowed it down to 3 choices:
    1. Rab Xenon X
    2. Outdoor Research Cathode
    3. Mountain Hardwear Thermostatic
Really just looking at the first 2 but I have not eliminated the Mountain Hardwear either.

I love my EB down. Not as compact as you want but they're warm, light, packable, water resistant, and fit for packs

For hiking, walking around town, backpacking, working outside type stuff i have enjoyed my Black Diamond Access Hybrid Hoodie. I have a large and can fit a sweatshirt under fleece to add more warmth when needed. I dont think its sold new but REI outlet (or garage whatever its called now) still has it. I dont use it much under 20 degrees though as once its colder than that I use other jackets (mainly my Flylow Puffy ski jacket)

    Question @velillen
    Why the hood requirement?

I have a Ghost Whisperer (non hooded) and just got a Patagonia Down Sweater Hoody for Christmas.

I haven't actually gotten to use them in the field yet since they are both super new (got GW just 2-3 weeks ago).

They are both larger than a softball (the GW is still very small) but I am a big, tall guy (I wear XXL). The GW is definitely super light though, and it still has pockets.

My plan is to bring the GW when temps are maybe in the mid to high 30's minimum, and the Patagonia will be for anything colder than that but I'll also wear it around town as well.

If you are thinking of the OR.... Call the factory store in Seattle and see what deals they will make for you. Or ask a member here, in Seattle, to check for you.
When I lived there, I was always in that store, they have great deals all the time. And really good sales people, too.

I was looking these until I got my other two, they're supposed to be great.

Here is the non lightweight one as well.

My buddy has this one and really likes it. Both of those are hell of a good price now too for 800FP treated down jackets. Especially that Microtherm.

Merry Christmas! Gonna find out in a little bit!

Big multi quote on my phone lol

I'm ordering from a pro deal site so I'm getting whatever I order for well below retail, unfortunately only some brands are on the site and EBAY and BD are 2 of them.

Thank you all for the suggestions!

    Merry Christmas all!

I know most of the stuff in this thread seems to be very expensive and top of the line.

But I'm looking for a 4 season tent that won't kill me on price.

I don't think I'll be using it in crazy low temperatures, maybe a low of zero overnight. Just need a two person, backpacking weight doesn't really matter as i camp mostly from the truck. But my two other tents are a bit too free flowing for cold temps. One is an rei, other is North face.

I saw this one that isn't bad on price.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H...8_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=SDP2RMCCEHGQRYYM92SR

I'm guessing something like this would be frowned upon.. but who knows.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01C...eason+tent&dpPl=1&dpID=41s6u5ljUgL&ref=plSrch

I may try to hit up an rei garage sale before pulling the trigger on anything unless i find a great deal.

I use the BD Access Hybrid Hoodie as an outer layer jacket. So having a hood is quite nice for blocking wind, rain, and snow. I honestly dont use it much as a "mid layer" very often and the couple times i have, having two hoods has never bothered me.

I do have a North Face Thermoball (no hood) that i use just as a mid layer or a summer warm layer. I really dont use it as much as i should more due to the size. I found a medium a bit snug and to short, it didnt cover my back. A large is good on that length but a bit roomy. So i mostly only use it at night on chilly nights (30-40 degree range) and wear it over my hiking clothes. It more fills a weird void i never really expected id account for lol. But its nice to have in the late spring, summer, early fall time frame.

One thing on my shopping list for the future is a good mid layer and a shell to go over it. Probably more in the spring when stuff really goes on sale.

GF's parents got me a gift card to REI. Other than that nothing yet. THough we go to my parents later today so who knows (socks hopefully!)
