Has anyone traded in their 2016 tacomas? I was curious how much y'all were getting in comparison to KBB? According to KBB and NADA, my truck is valued at 32.5-34k trade in. Thanks!

Is there something in the 2016 that you don't like that is different in the 2017?

I know nothing about your truck but you probably stand to lose about 3K on your trade in.

Good luck actually getting that. I briefly looked and changed my mind. If you can get that on trade, they will screw you on sales price. It doesn't matter how well you negotiate and try to keep the sales price separate from the trade in, there's just no way they are going to give you a trade in price for equal to what they can buy new inventory for.

No there isn't. I moved from Montana to Texas and I am trying to avoid paying taxes on the truck since there wasn't any sales tax in Montana I will have to pay sales tax once I register it here in Texas. So I was thinking about just trading it in on a new one that way I will only have to pay tax on the difference. This will definitely cost me More money, but then I will at least be getting a brand new truck

Sales tax alone will cost me about $2200 so I was thinking about trading it in on a new one if I could do it for less than $4000 or so...

    Thoughts??

This is probably about this best time to buy a vehicle, its end of the Month and Year, might be possible to get a deal done if they need to move a few more vehicles to gain some big incentives.

I will be spending an extra $1800 but will be getting a truck that is a year newer (this will help with resale value later down the road) and it will also have 8000 less miles...

Does the sales tax credit actually work if you didn't pay any to begin with? Seems like a loophole that would be closed quickly

I'm not sure... that is what I am curious about. This was just a thought I had but have not looked into it too much

I wouldn't think this would necessarily be a loophole because it will be costing me more money at the end of the day...

I would be more concerned about how Texas can charge him sales tax on a truck that sounds like would have been registered in another state.

They'll probably have to register the truck in Texas before they can take it as a trade, which means you'll pay the taxes in any case.

Looks like you pay the difference in sales tax from the previous state and the Texas rate. . Which would effectively be the full amount since it was purchased in a no sales tax state

Does a trade in have to be registered in the state at which you are trading it?

    Almost certainly.

Why would they take an out of state vehicle and all the associated potential problems? They won't risk it.

The only exception could be if they have a sister dealership in Montana to which they could off-load the truck, but fat chance of those stars aligning.
