Has anyone ordered the California black 60s style "Legacy" plates for their truck? I ordered them a month&ahalf or so ago, got the approval notice about a month ago saying they'd take 8-12 weeks to arrive at my DMV. Now I get a refund check from the DMV for the $50 fee I paid, with no explanation for why. So now I wonder if they decided to not make mine? Or did they become free?

IIRC ... there was more info on what was happening on those CA license plates in another thread.

Since I am not from CA ... I did not read it.

I do not have them, but seen them on plenty of vehicles here in CA. I do remember reading a few weeks ago someone mentioning they will "approve" and order, then later review what the plate says and either allow it or deny it and refund.

Usually that means the name you choose for the plate was not approved. Even though you already paid for it the plate has to go through a screening process to make sure it's not "offensive" or etc. Did you have taco in it? I've heard of some people having issues getting anything approved with taco in it; the DMVs weird like that.

The dmv did crash a while back. I purchased a vehicle and paid all the fees at AAA. I still have not received the title. The vehicle did not have a front license plate, so I went back to AAA to get a new set and was unable to due to the DMV crash. Still waiting on the title and getting new plates. This was back in October. Starting to get really irritated with this issue. Don't know if the "crash" has anything to due with customized plates. But was told all plate related requests were on a delay.

You normally receive a notice in the mail if your vanity plate was declined.

    I did, anyway.

Thanks all-funny thing is they sent an approval in the mail saying my first choice of three was approved. It is "SX-88ONR" which is to refer to the Hallicrafters SX-88 shortwave receiver I own. Gees you don't think their dirty minds mistook it as "SEX88ON HER" do you?

    Weird.

I'd give them a call. What you're experiencing doesn't resemble a normal disapproval so far as I've experienced.

I'm sure there's something else amiss here.

Right-they tell you if it is disapproved, they will say as much in the rejection notice along with your refund check. Mine came with a generic "refund/overpaid" note attached.

I remember years back (I forget the state) a guy got a vanity plate issued from his request that said 'DRUNK'. He had it for a while, then the complaints rolled in and the DMV wanted it back.

He fought hard for it and eventually/surprisingly he was able to keep it.

    Clever, but safe ones...

Are those plates proposition 65 compliant?

I wish I had more input. I just ordered mine on 12/15 and haven't heard anything, not even acknowledgement of payment. It's the most confusing DMV process I've ever been through.

+1. I feel ya. I guess I will have to try and break through to a DMV person and find out what's up tomorrow morning.

Good luck, hopefully you'll find out something. This is absolutely the worst DMV system that I've ever had to deal with.
