So guys with a bed rack, is it somewhat easy to take it off with rtt and other gear still on? Want a rtt but a expo trailer seems kind of like a hindrance and I use my truck like a truck so I'd be taking it off alot.

At first I was thinking ground tent, but a rtt sounds so much better. Probably go with the tepui sky something...

Have you thought about a hoist from the garage ceiling?

I just take my rack off as well. Just need a buddy to help. Or like Scott said use some sort of hoist with a garage

RTT's don't appeal to me. The wife and I go camping a few times a year and we use my truck to get around. I can't imagine having to take down and put up the tent every time we wanted to go somewhere. Also, what the hell is the big deal about sleeping on the ground?!

Meh takes 5 minutes to take it down.

Well sleeping on the ground when it rains sucks ass. That's the main reason I got one

    Don't have a garage...or a carport. It kinda sucks.

Gotcha, might be a little later down the road.

I've thought about buying a rtt, but they can be costly. They seem cool, comfortable, and practical for the most part. Only down side is when camping for multiple days and having to use your truck to get around. Then you have to fold it back up. I know it doesn't take long to do. I've been dreaming of doing a camping trailer down the road with a rtt. Seems like a cool idea. It'll have storage space and be able to set up home camp. Just have to figure out how to secure the trailer so no one pulls it off and steal it. Maybe old tire boots.

Setting up a tent in the rain and dark sucks nuts. Let alone if you accidentally set up your tent on an underground yellow jacket nest. Just don't ask how I know about the later one.:censored:

I thought about doing that but it's something your truck also has to pull over obstacles. Having to back all the way down a trail doesn't sound fun...

We always camp on the ground. We have a nice 4 person Bass Pro tent that is plenty of room for the 2 of us. I can set it up in about 5 mins. I just put a tarp under the tent and put blankets down and it's like being in a Queen sized bed.

You are right. Backing up on trails with a trailer doesn't sound like a fun time. My thought was, the trailer would be for trips that are strictly camping based or at off-road parks. Anything else, a different approach will probably be taken.

Down here I would never want to own a trailer. It would be a PITA to do a u-turn on a trail. To me it'd be great at an Offroad park where I could leave it all weekend

Any of you guys have a tool box in your truck? Got to watching some overland videos and I noticed none of the trucks have a tool box. Just wondering why you guys don't have one, mine is completely full of tools and other stuff.

If not I'd like to know where yall keep your tools so I can take mine out for more room..

I usually have a bit of tools on hand because i have been stuck up shit creek before. Better to have and not need then need and not have.

Well, the reason I ask is i want to move my spare from under the truck but I'm not going with a rear tire carrier and I'd like to have more room than I have now. But I got to thinking, I could just mount it on the under side of the bed rack below a rrt

Only problem with that is you'll still lose room unless the bed rack is level with the cab. (i.e. not like mine where my RTT is level with the cab)
