HUH..??? R U talking about the Crankshaft Position Sensor.?? If so...NO.. the revised indicators that U want to see, will require that you remove and inspect the CPS...!!

I wouldn't worry about it to much if it hasn't failed or starts leaking. Usually in these cases with that type of part "update" if you truck starts exhibiting the issue it will be replaced. Surely a TSB will come out and even if they don't a call to Corp. can help get it replaced if it happens out of warranty.

The the part improvement as well could simply be to aid in the assembly process to prevent future failures for all we know. So if yours was assembled fine, no leaks, etc then chances are it likely won't fail.

I saw this with O2 sensors from Suzuki for example on GSXR's. They tightened the sensors down at the factory to hard and it caused a crack, which over time got bigger and fails. It didn't mean all GSXR's of that gen had the issue, just a few here and there. The new part was and update but not because it was better, just because it aided in the install at the factory and from a different vendor source.

Just my 2 cents on it all. I have seen "updated" parts come out worse then the original believe it or not. The only people I would ask to chime in on this is Toyota Tech's who have replaced them and can show / see any difference.

From what I am hearing it is almost beneficial for us to replace the cps before its to late or am I looking to much into it?

I've read more than one person claim that the power seems "off" after having a CPS failure and then having it replaced. I have no idea what would cause that and if it's permanent or not, but I'd replace it proactively.

    depends when yours was built.
From what I've seen on here its only the early 2016s that had it.
They corrected it pretty fast in production.

I know a few members on here have bought spare ones just to keep in the rig so if it fails while out on the trail they can get it going again
Its an easy job to do so ya.

Do you need to know, or care?
I wouldn't replace it. There haven't been that many issues with them on here, maybe a half dozen or so, but it's not like every second truck is breaking down.

Thank you. I asked my friend who is a master tech at Toyota for over 20 years about it and at his store he has not seen any issues. He is also a Forman and does mostly diagnoses

More than half a dozen failures reported in TW alone. And every one reported the failure as a potential safety issue, as many went into limp mode while on an interstate or in some cases merging onto highways. My truck was built 9/16, I replaced mine as a precaution. I look at it as insurance - you don't know IF it will happen, but best to spend ~ 100 bucks to avoid it if possible. I don't like being stranded anyway.

The hatch mark symbol is on the INSIDE face of the sensor, you have to pull the old one to check as mentioned. The connector didn't want to come loose the first time I did it, even had a friend try it for me. Second time I attempted (truck was cold, a little on the hot side first time) it came off pretty easy.

No one on here knows what was wrong with the first batch, despite the expert opinion and banter that is common here.

EDIT: my truck was 9/15 build

    Right thinking, IMO.

I had an issue with my truck - any time the motor was over 2k RPM and it hit 70 MPH (so any time I was accelerating to merge onto the freeway, change lanes, or get out of the way of a potential accident situation on the freeway) the truck would misfire and go into limp mode, and I'd lose all power. It was extremely dangerous, and almost resulted in 2 accidents with big rigs before I finally said fuck it, you keep the truck until it's fixed and give me a loaner before I or someone else is injured because of this problem.

There is also a chance you could die in a car wreck. So better never drive.

Or you get a flat tire. So always carry (4) a set of new tires.

Or at any moment have a heart attack. So dont eat bacon.

Or the chance that Star Wars happened. So pick a side now!

My point being, less than 1% of the trucks built have had an issue. Yes, the people who had the problem are going to tell you the house is on fire. Sucks for the very FEW people that have had it. But it is by NO means a common issue.

If youre worried about this, then dont ever drive, because miles make tires weaker. Got to worry about every small thing right?

And how do you know what the % is? You don't. Yota recognized a part issue to the point of adding new marking to tell "good" from "bad". A recall isn't happening. Doesn't mean it isn't a real problem. Your logic is cute though.

Lol and so is yours. A recall isnt happening because it doesnt pertain to a common issue. Humor is always welcomed, please keep trying.
