DEI DBALL2 Remote Start Install using OEM fob - 2017 Tacoma Push to Start

No one is forcing you to buy anything, don't like something that's someone doing? Ignore it and move on with your life. I didn't see kbvoodoo or nick trashing anyone's attempt at individual effort, want to do it yourself, go ahead no one is stopping you
Ps I may be new here, but I'm a 10 year member on m3forum, in last 5 of those years I purchased a coding station for an e46 chassis, I've helped many local members with ecu modifications and chassis coding as well, I've never charged anyone a penny. With that said, there's were other local members that have done same thing I did, but they want to get paid for their work( that's why I bought my own) you don't see me bitching about that

 

It's been that way on TW too. I figure someone will eventually be offering device flashing, either free or paid for other members here. Or the XKLOADER device will be sold/re-sold a bunch.

 

@Frogsauce -- from what I've seen, some of the

DBALL2 vendors will flash the device for you either for free or for a minor upcharge. Or some folks may offer to help others in their local area. As you mention, any number of scenarios are possible. That's the nice thing about a community; there are options for those technical enough to understand wiring diagrams and pin-outs, and options for those wanting a vendor to support them if they should need it.

As for the DBALL2 configuration -- I simply tried the default configuration with the sole exception of enabling SmartStart since I was planning to buy one. It worked first time out, nothing special needed. No dealer account, no special options, no tricks or hidden stuff, just the stuff I selected and showed in my screen shots. I'd expect that if someone were to buy from a vendor offering flashing services and ask that they duplicate the configuration I posted, it should work fine for them as well. I also took screen shots of each option menu and will post those up in a couple days when I have a chance.

The DBALL2 has been referenced in the 3rd Gen forum as early as October of last year. It and the Fortin units were on my radar prior to December, but I had higher priority home improvement projects in flight and couldn't devote the time to researching the DEI instructions and comparing all pins / connections referenced against the FSM and Fortin instructions. The Fortin EVO-ALL and DBALL2 substantially parallel one another with very minor differences. Makes sense as they're essentially performing the same functions. It provided a great cross-reference.

Preparation:

Picked up this little guy for $30 from Home Depot. Butane powered and did a good job. Just watch where the exhaust port is on the tip.

Some clean work there, @PJnc284 -- good job.

Your fourth photo shows the plastic clip holding the OBD cable more clearly than mine do -- it'll come off the bolt threads it's pushed onto, giving a bit more cable length to work with and making the install easier.

 

I noticed that after the fact. lol. Ran around most of the day yesterday before finally working on it so I'm surprised it worked at all. Also I was fully expecting the radio to lose the presets and bluetooth pairing when I disconnected the battery but it kept everything aside from having to change the audio source back. Did reset the trip meter but that's a small price to pay for added piece of mind.

 

I'm going to do my install tomorrow. I have all day to route everything cleanly.

That is a great stool, by the way! I stumbled onto that one at a Northern Tools store about 2 months ago and find myself using it all the time. It's sturdy too, I not a little skinny guy at 250 lbs., I can break a lot of toys!

 

btw- don't do like I did and put the little rubber pad from the little cubby hole on top of the lower panel. It fell out and while wondering where the hell it went I realized it also fit perfectly on top of the cubby in the inside of the panel.

 

Slick! I still use an old radio shack "helping hands" device I bought thirty years ago.

 

Yeah I already put my brake controller in that little cubby.

 

Done, not too hard. The voodoo kit didn't have anything special that you couldn't either do yourself or already have done before you get it. Your original post has all the instructions necessary. The included paper instructions were worthless. The clear picture posts on the forum are much better. I added additional wire loom to clean some things up and instead of drilling holes in the truck, I routed the ground wires down to the factory ground location under the kick panel.

DBALL2. Like gpb said, it was just a matter of time before someone put together a post with more info. No one invented anything here. Just implemented an aftermarket product already available. Like I said, noble to get people started with the right info, but not when you mark everything up $90 afterwards.
