So for comms. Im no pro im a rookie.
But couldnt you use a booster to gain out put and a good antenna to gain signal. And still use any radio. And as far as the hand held you could get a separate mic and speaker.
Install would not be as clean as a detachible face but wouldn't it be a decent set up. Its not the way im leaning , but i have thought about.. so much to learn still.

 

I spent an hour looking over shit but everything looked fine to me. They were hella busy so I really don't know how much time they actually spent on it. Taking it back in on Saturday

Yes you can, but it won't be cost efficient.

 

Looking at the numbers, looks like they just looked at it and didnt adjust shit.most guys are afraid to do alignments becuase they dont know what there doing.and when you tell them what you want they get that puzzled look.

 

But not as much as a dual or tri band. That one may already own.

 

It really depends on what you plan on doing. If you just need a radio to talk back and forth with a guy in your group and you're not deviating from 146.460mhz:

1. Skip the radio with all the bells and whistles
2. Get the cheapest quality radio to get the job done
3. Lock all the settings
4. Use an external on/off switch to turn the radio on and off

Now you don't need to waste space anywhere in your center console area. Just extend the handheld mic anywhere you want it and you're golden.

Just keep it simple.


If you plan on setting up APRS, Crossband Repeat, and running digital modes, you're going to be in a situation where you're running a mobile ham shack with multiple android tablets, laptops, and base station units. This also costs a metric dickton of money.

It all depends on how far you wanna go and what's important.

 

Those peekaboo rocks sucked. I think I hit the same rock Ferny hit. Uphill in a turn locked and it kinda pushed me into what I thought was going to be a snow bank. Nope it was a boulder

 

I was just looking into it. But with my 8w and a booster it might be an option. Not that i will. Just looking into options. Keep in mind i also want to run this on my boat. So a portable setup that i just plug and ply with a quick plug in might be good for both. Just food for thought.i haven't really put much thought into it yet. To busy.

Amplifiers require a static installation where it must be properly mounted, grounded, ventilated, and have clean 12v run to it.

On a boat, additional power is practically useless. A taller antenna is more important than anything.

I think you and I have two very different expectations and understanding of what a signal amplifier does.

 

i was led to believe before i went the trail was "easy". Was i bamboozled?

 

Its actually easy with no snow. It's Usually just a crawl.

 

ah, i can see how the snow amped up the difficulty. Definitely made for a few hairy turns and a few sudden slides. Was almost friends with a tree a few times.
