Looking to pick up the ST Maxx's for my 1st gen and trying to figure out the best size for me. My truck is a 2002 V6 4x4 TRD Extracab with stock 16" rims and sits on OME springs at about 2.5" over stock. I have 4.10 gearing and would like to avoid having to regear. Currently leaning to the LT265/75R16. The other contender for me would be the 235/85r16 as I do see benefit to more pizza cutter tires, but am fairly certain they'd be too skinny for my stock rims (which I think are 8" width, but am not sure). Could always try and track down a set of 7" wide rims. Not sure if it's an issue, but wondering how clearance is with the stock UCA as well. Any suggestions?

Here's a photo of the truck on the very worn 265/70r16 Michelin LTX's from the previous owner. (Which FWIW were a great tire. Long tread life and good for for highway, wet pavement, snow, dryish dirt, light gravel and even packed sand but obviously fall short in loose sand and any mud or even wet dirt)

    Stuff. Also things.
That's a great setup, man! Your truck is literally the twin of mine, right down to the year!

I cant help you much with the sizing, but I can say that I love my Maxxs. Great tire on pavement and super capable on dirt, mud, and the little bit of sand that I've encountered. Good luck!

8" rim is probably too wide for 235s. I went with 7" rims with 255s but I've seen plenty of guys mount 255s on 8" rims. I believe Cooper recommends 8" wide max for 255s. Not sure about 235s. IMG_6038.jpg

Anyone have 285 on a 7" rim. Most tire manufacturers recommend atleast 7.5.

Thanks for the input. I do have the trd pro 4runner wheels. I just don't want to run into problems with the 285 on 7" rim. Any one else have this setup?

Dammit I love these things! They impress me with every situation I throw at them.

    Soupy, thick mud... Success

    20161225_152837.jpg

Made it through. Purposely put the rear 2 wheels in a foot deep wash out, and the fronts up high on the right side and Crab walked out. It was the only way through without fully sliding into the washed out section.

The grip, especially from the sidewall lugs, gives me so much more confidence. I wouldnt have tried it with my ATII's.

    20161225_142426.jpg

got my front tires up high on this right side, basically pushing into the bushes, let the rear tires slide into the wash in the middle that is somewhat visible. then just pulled my way through, heading out to the left of this pic.

I'm running 315/75r16 (basically 35x12.5) on a 7" rim and no issues. Harder part is finding a place okay with mounting like that, but it's amazing for offroad since it holds the bead so well.

Installed mine today! So far so good. Fyi for 1st gens trying to fit 285 75 16 with the fox's 2.0 and AAL there are no issues with rubbing other than a little bit in the pinch weld area. Also, granted you have rims with 4" backspacing

Nice! I have a first gen also and am curious if you regeared or not going up to the 287/75r16's? Also are you a 4-banger or the v6? And lastly, what wheels are those? They looks good.

Thanks, Haven't regeared yet. Im planning to do so when i get the front arb locker. Even tho it feels great with the 5 speed and v6. Slightly sluggish, not much. These wheels are the procomps 7069 with 4mm backspacing.
