Didn't call the guy out on it?? Good for you, only an ungrateful douchebag would call out somebody who was trying to help him.

Mine was not plug and play, pre wired for the fogs, intermittent wipers but not the c.c. I hear I might need the clock spring replaced, expensive proposition

My cruise control is operated by Sybil. It'll downshift 2 sometimes 3 gears on the highway climbing a hill.

I'm on board with CC getting worse MPG. I know how to feather the pedal. Anytime I've ever used CC my mileage is terrible. And that's in every vehicle I've owned.

Yes well worth it. I did mine last spring. The oem stalk will cost u a fortune. I found mine on eBay out of China for $17. And it worked. Had to order an oem wire harness though.

This guy has a great install video

Every CC I've ever used had a bad habit of dropping 3-4 gears to accelerate the 3mph that was lost climbing a hill. :bikewhoops:
I'll use it on long, flat highways, but that's it. I'll challenge a CC system to a mpg showdown anyday :quickdraw:

Type in fuel savings tricks into Google. See if using cruise isn't listed in every single thread that pops up. Makes sense that a computer keeping a vehicle at the same speed would get better mpg then a persons foot.

What makes sense to me is gaining a little speed before a hill to avoid downshifting/lugging or slowing down for traffic, maybe even reasonably allowing my speed to drop to avoid a 2-3 gear downshift at 3/4 throttle. None of which my cruise control can do.

Some of the newer SMART cruise controls can slow down and speed up with traffic automatically, but not Tacoma cc.

Btw some of those "google tips" are :cookiemonster:

When I was on a trip to Oklahoma City almost 3 years ago, OKC officers in Bricktown had a marked Ford Ranger. My dad and I stopped at the local Starbucks and the two officers were there for some coffee. Being the truck enthusiast that I am, I asked the cops some questions about their truck. Apparently it was not a police package vehicle, just a standard 4.0L/automatic 2WD Ranger with a posi rear. It had all the usual equipment like lightbar, laptop, gun rack, stuff like that, but it was just a normal Ranger XL underneath it all.

I also saw a marked Silverado 2500HD in use by Virginia Beach PD while on vacation with family in Sandbridge. US police departments generally don't use import vehicles, but I've seen all sorts of vehicles from all over the world seized by US police departments and sheriff's departments and used as "DARE" vehicles. I was wondering if anybody, LEO or civilian, knows of any departments that have a seized Tacoma in their DARE fleet?

I believe that I read about/viewed a modified 2nd Gen Tacoma in this forum. The interior had com devices and all sorts of gun racks and such. I think that it was used for border patrol. The officer had done most of the work himself. It was pretty cool.

    A search should find it.

I paid $131 and change from the dealer for a brand new OEM switch...

Before bashing me for not getting the best deal or something, consider the following:

    1) My dad paid for it as a slightly late Christmas present. I paid NOTHING for the switch!
    2) The part is normally almost $165.
    3) I am very particular about using genuine Toyota parts on my truck, and I didn't trust Amazon or other websites.
    4) A friend of a friend owns the dealership where I bought the part, and they've hooked me up with stuff in the past, most notably a free rental car when I brought the truck in for an oil change earlier this year. I didn't even have to pay in advance!

So, the part comes in tomorrow morning and I will pick it up then. My dad is a bit reluctant to let me install the switch on my own, but I'm gonna show him this (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cheap-free-mods.4838/page-11#post-82545).

If not, a friend of mine is a former Volvo mechanic and owns his own shop, and he will install the switch for a good price. I'm 99% sure I can do it myself, though.

That's only about $15-$30 too much. For the same genuine part. So not that bad.

It's an easy mod if you aren't a klutz with the column trim. That would be easy to mess up if you aren't patient and get all yanky or something.

You'll enjoy it. They should have all come with it.

Of course it's the safest way. But just leaving the ignition off (no keys in switch!) should be sufficient. It really is PnP as far as the assembly goes. The trim off/on is harder than the switch.

So I really don't have to replace anything other than the switch? Do you know where the actual wiper motor is?

Do you have the new part in your hand? That's all that gets changed.

If you read the link you made above, and still think there is more to do, or something with the wiper motor, your dad may be right.

Not being insulting, but you clearly aren't grasping how this works...........

Recommend letting someone be watching over your shoulder if you are going to do the work. Good learning experience on a simple part.

    The part comes in tomorrow...

I've just apparently been fed a bunch of BS by the dealership and a few other people. I am now realizing that it is as simple as swapping out a part...
