You don't need to know where it is you don't do anything with it. All the control is in the switch. My only advice is take your time pulling the old switch out, as was previously mentioned, don't get "yanky".

Absolutely. Always disconnect the negative post when working on electrical.

Now, there's one thing I still don't get...

Why the hell does Toyota still not put intermittent wipers in base Tacomas? Nissan Frontiers and Chevy Colorados have them standard!

When swapping a battery, negative is first off, second on.

When just killing power, like for this project, all you need is to break the circuit. Negative off does that.

What's that? Why you say? Reduced risk of drawing an arc with that method. Computerized cars don't like weird voltage spikes.

As far as dealership info on stuff like this, it depends on who you talk to. Some folks work there who can't find their own drain plug, bu talk a big game. Some are excellent. Sounds like #1 was whispering in your ear.

Do them both if it makes you feel better, but the battery should always be disconnected when working on electrical. I usually disconnect both posts.

In this case, you're going to need to turn the key to unlock the steering to get the cowls off the steering column, which turns on accessories (power). Not good when playing with connections.

    Might go poof!

I have a single cab as well and they are considered base model, most used for fleet vehicles. Those customers want them as inexpensive as possible. I do agree it seems a silly thing though..

The standard answer is it can't be done per the dealer. Not sure why they think so, probably just don't know what they don't know.

Ford Rangers had them standard from the early 1990s until production ended in 2011. S-10s had them standard from 1994 until production ended in 2004.

I called my dealership about adding this and cruise and they told me it wasn't possible.

Exactly. People will buy Tacomas either way because of their reputation, and most will pay handsomely for the upgrades to standard.

Agreed it seems stupid. I remember back when most cars didn't have them and there was some kit you could buy to wire in (universal).

Come to think of it, searching that on Google is what first led me to this place.

I know it isn't police related, but Pensacola Beach has their entire Beach Patrol vehicle fleet as 2nd gen Tacoma trucks.

I have seen Tacomas as lifeguard vehicles before. Went on a family vacation in Long Beach Island (New Jersey). Lifeguards had a 2001-2004 extended cab 4x4.

I remember reading somewhere that Tacomas are very popular are among thieves... Cadillac Escalade, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry are among most stolen vehicles.
