    Solid axle toyota

Instead of CV axle shafts, it's a solid axle that goes into the diff. It has what's called a Birfield joint on the outside, which is essentially a CV, that goes into the hub. It's much more resilient and won't bind up and brake a CV like you would on an IFS 4x4 because you don't have each individual CV axle shaft articulated in different angles from each other. Everything stays nice and straight in that axle housing.

    compared to an IFS 4x4

Beside Jeeps, HD Fords, and HD Dodges, most modern 4x4s have CV axles and A-arms.

For the most part solid front axles are more rugged and resilient.

Keep your current truck and get a project like mine. Like I mentioned earlier, there are thousands of these things built and documented to guide you every step of the way to take a lot of the guess work out of it.

The only thing is, that these old Toyotas that already come with the SFA and fuel injected are drying up and getting harder to find, and pricy.

That would be the best way to go. I kinda got lucky on finding my truck. I got it for about $2k less than what they were going for, but the motor was fucked and I was able to find another running motor for less than half of what they are going for.

Those are cool, but I don't think I would ever go carbureted again for 4x4. However, you can do an easy propane system on those things that makes them way more reliable. Especially if it's getting towed places.

No I wouldn't do carburetor unless all first gens are carbureted but I don't think so

All first gen pickups are carbureted. Second gen pickups started in 84, and EFI started in 85 as an option. Carb was still available for a few years.

I think so too now. 1st and 2nd gen mean entirely different things to me, unless you specify pickup, tacoma, 4runner.
