I remember years ago my wife had an Escort. 80's something. A heater hose split right at the firewall and I cut about an inch off the end and tried to put it back on. Too fackin short. I had to go buy new hose. I asked myself why they couldn't have made the hose a little longer in the first place.

That's when it dawned on me. With a production run of 250,000+ Escorts world wide, that 1" translates into about 4 miles of hose at 63,360 inches in a mile.

Toyota produces a pile of trucks every month. Imagine the cost of all those switches?

    And this:

And there is a cocktail bar someplace waiting for you, ba da bing ba da boom, don't forget to tip your waitress :rimshot:

Now the lady I'm seeing wants a remote start like I do. Think things are reversed here I go out and start her car when it is that cold so will likely will get her one. Speaking of reversed this aint Texas and I'm at the other end of 35. A week and a half ago it was -21 here with a wind chill of -45.

Not that there is anything wrong with being at the other end of I-35 and this time of year wonder if I shouldn't be there! The other 6 weeks of the year when there is piss poor sledding here I'll take it though.

That is smart as hell, I do the settings almost automatically before I shut if off. Only thing I would add to that setup is make sure windshield wipers are off. I check for that but automaticagially would be a blessing so that the one time I don't check for it don't burn up the wiper motor because the wipers are frozen in place.

Again, don't bash my driving... I've had my license almost 6 years and have never even been pulled over. I have, however, been in a number of minor fender benders, two of which were not my fault. Never gotten a speeding ticket or any kind of moving violation, lost my license, or anything like that.

Back in 2000, when we were living in Oak Harbor WA... Neighbors had a 1998 Ford Windstar minivan. Babysitter had permission to use van and was picking up kids; Hit a deer; Only damage to van was smashed headlight and extraordinarily minor fender and bumper damage but airbag deployed. Family apparently paid cash for van, only had liability insurance, and couldn't afford new airbag or new van, so just drove it as-is.

My airbag light only came on once, and that was when I stuffed a college textbook under my seat and accidentally tore the wire. Cost only $60 to fix versus almost $1,000 parts and labor for new harness.

That said, I have seen cars that were extraordinarily badly damaged and the airbags DO NOT go off, and cars with minor damage where one or both of the airbags deploy. It just makes me wonder how well my airbags actually work. In August 2019, my truck will be ten years old (2010 manufactured in August 2009). My Grandma bought a 1987 Mercedes 300E brand new, it had a driver's airbag, and there was a sticker in the glovebox that said to get the airbag serviced in March 1997 (ten years).

I mean, how do we know they're all gonna be ready to protect us?

some of this, a little of that
so when you start the truck does your airbag light come on then go out normally, like the rest of the lights or does it never light at all?

The airbag system works with sensors that don't just sense impacts. Module sees x amount of g's and will deploy the appropriate restraints for the amount of g-load, IE minor low speed collision will not deploy anything, medium speed could deploy just seat belts, side impact will deploy curtains and seats, and so on and so forth.

Nut shell: There is a good chance your airbag system is fine. There are a lot of factors that go into deploying restraints, the collisions you've been in haven't been sever enough.

Rav4.jpg No airbag deployed in either of these accidents, it was the other persons fault both times. the Tacoma was 10-15 mph and the Rav4 was 35-40.
