OP. Great choice on changing colors. If you are going to wheel or own the vehicle for a long time, black would be a bitch to maintain. I went with Quicksand. I had a buddy in Florida with a Black OR 2wd. Mine the 4x4 OR. We went light trail driving, sometimes brushing up against twigs and bushes. With my truck, I could just spray and wipe off the stuff branches leave behind. He tried to wipe it off and it was like HOLY SHIT. That thing is screwed. The scratches going down the side, swirl marks, ugh...I mean yeah, you can buff it away but Christ. I have other things to do then buff my truck all the time. If you have a mall crawler with deep dish chome 20" rims and all you do is drive it on the road, black may look better, longer mostly. I take my truck off-road to many times and I know that if I went with a black truck, I would be trading it in for something else..

Is there a good kit out there you would recommend? I'm very interested. Thanks

the griots works well. Its WAY better then the POS Porter cable 7424. it has ALOT more power and wont stall as easy.
    I dont use Griots polishes.
I usually use HD adapt, Sonax perfect finish, M101, Scholles s40,s3, I could go on and on. but the most I use is HD adapt. it just works so well and it will cut with the cut of the pad. it works really well for a compound and VERY good as a finishing polish.
I recently used new Carpro Essence plus. I have my truck coated with Optimum opti-gloss and I didnt want to remove the coating to deal with some water spots and reapply. This new Carpro essence plus is a chemical polish with no abrasives. It cleaned my paint and removed the water spots and it wont mess with the coating and it adds some ceramic coating onto the paint as well.

I know, I know. But, I have to keep telling myself it's only a little bit of extra work or else I'll trade it in!!

I agree that the Porter-Cable isn't the most powerful, but that's ok with me - keeps me focused on my technique on a black truck.

For light scratches and swirls from washing, I have had good luck with McKees 360 all in one. I use the machine to put this on and then follow up with Blackfire afterwards by hand.

As soon as I got mine home I hand washed it slowly with clean microfiber towels and lots of soap. Then 2 coats of ICE ... it only took a couple hours and it's holding up fine. I usually do it in the spring and fall.

If you are not into waxing/cleaning a vehicle then don't get black. I will do the work with any color because I enjoy it... but some hate doing that stuff.

oh and for a machine to get. get the harbor freight one. it has more power then the PC but not as much as the griots. can be had on sale for about $60 and its actually a very good machine. Dont be fooled by where its sold. If I didnt have the griots already I would buy one. just get a 5" backing plate for it and use 5.5" Buff n shine pads. They are the best out there

If your just looking to remove light scratches. stick with blue pads for fine scratches and the white for a little more aggressive. anything heavier and you might have to get into a 2step buff.

Yes they are all hairline scratches from washing over the years. My vehicles never go thru a car wash other than a self spray wash for underneath.

If you've been given the chance to get rid of it, I would..
I LOVE the clean black look but man this paint sucks!! 10,000kms on it and I have more scratches, scuffs and swirls than
I'd like to admit, I baby the hell out of it, wash it proper and it looks like shit!!
Will you do off roading? Muddy water on that paint for more than a day or too will stain it.
Comes clean after a few more washes.
Rub one bush and it'll look like a key scratch down the side.

I'm going to try that McKee's 37. I'm always looking for something that might buff off easier as I hand apply/buff.

I've been using HD Speed for getting out light swirls and topping with HD Poxy with good results.
