The Tech probably tore the boot in the process of removing the transmission because as stated several times, grease would be flung all over.

IMG_2892.jpg Your suspect cv boot... IMG_2893.jpg What a bad cv boot should actually look like. Picture is from a google search for "bad cv boot".

Im calling BS on your dealership service department. Pretty sure they are trying to shaft you for the clutch job.

That is a good point about the cv's. They do make a mess of the boot tears. It's also odd that both sides are torn at 600 miles.
shafts are not a big deal to change but I'd be interested to see what caused them to fail. An abrasion is going to look different than a cut

A wider shot of the CV, both sides are pretty much the same. Only part of the boots had grease coming out the rest of the areas are very clean still.

Thanks again for the heads up.

Did they get a chance to tell you what's up with your truck?

On the phone with Toyota Corp as I type. Still nothing. The service department at the dealer is waiting on warranty claims approval to replace the clutch, pressure plate and release bearing and flywheel. But since it's the holidays, Noone is available to approve things. Lovely. And still no loaner, I could go get a rental but will have to go through claims afterwards, if the current process is any indication, I definitely don't want to be spending more time chasing toyota for rental fees.

If it has 600 miles on it I doubt it was happening at the factory, not too mention he apparently has been driving it and this was the first time it happened.

When it comes to a clutch it is very hard to prove to a service department that you didn't abuse it,they Definately aren't going to give you a new truck over this and although I have no reason not to believe you when you say it wasn't abused you are actually lucky they didn't deny your warranty claim. When it comes to a clutch sometimes it's hard to get those covered under warranty because they assume it was abuse.Unfortunately this is probably why you didn't receive a loaner vehicle.I know it sucks but that's how a dealership works
