What can I do about driving safely on ice

Other than drive really really slowly? Should I be using my LSD? (not exactly sure how all the options work)

 

Like a frozen lake, or icy roads?

 

Studded tires are the only thing besides chains that will help on ice.

The ABS will try to kill you while driving on ice.

Be Curtious to others (even when they piss you off, better pissed off than pissed on)

What it's the 2ng gen equivalent of the grey wire mod?
Does OP have a rear locker?
Surely there is a mod to turn off the ABS (?).

I just stay off the breaks as much as possible.

There are a couple versions of the ABS on/ off switch, depending on whether you have the locker or not.

 

I don't know much about the 2nd gen stuff as I have a 1st gen. I did the grey wire mod for my locker but, have never been concerned about just turning off my ABS.
I guess Elko, NV gets ice. Didn't think it got much of any water in any form.

 

Can't you just pull the ABS fuse?

 

If you are going to do it frequently / seasonally, consider investing in a second set of wheels / tires. Studded or studless winter tires (like Blizzaks) work great.

Keep it in four wheel drive.

Keep some weight in the bed.

Drive slower, anticipate your braking early.

Have an escape path in your end for every braking situation - better to run into a snow berm than someone's back bumper.

I drive on M+S rated tires in four wheel drive without issue. Our roads have ice about 5 months out of the year.

 

If you go really, really slow with the LSD engaged. That worked for me in January 2016. Actually slid down a hill and went off the road into a ditch without damaging my truck, then got out and back up the hill with nothing but patience, prayer, and my LSD.

 

Also, when it snows, I take it advantage of this and shovel snow into the bed for weight over the rear wheels...
