    Hi All,

I'm an old guy and don't know much about "stuff". I am not going to jump-start anyone from my battery. But I would never leave a person in a lurch either. Is there a device I can use to "jump" someone by using the inverter?

Best bet may be 1 of those tiny jump boxes now.
For what its worth, the stock invertor is pretty weak.

Tell me about a "jump box" I don't want to buy an independent "starter pack". Where do I look, what do I "search" for on google. What sort of store carries a complete "kit". You know, cables, carrying case, whatever?

If you had a battery charger, you could plug that into the inverter plug. You wouldn't be able to use the "boost" setting on the charger, though. The inverter plug is only good for 400 watts if I remember correctly. Slow charging a battery would work, but would take a while.

These things work great! Take up little space and can be used to charge phones and tablets.

This is the Harbor Freight version. I love mine.

    Thx,

Let me start over. In the bed of my Sport is a built-in inverter. Can I open the little door - plug "something" in and jump start another vehicle?

    All,

Not sure I'm getting my message out. Rather than buy a dry cell battery pack charger I would like to go from the inverter. Is there such a device that will generate enough amps to start another car/truck using the inverter.

I would consider a lithium battery pack or it's equal that wouldn't need charging every month or so. Sure as heck the first time I needed it the damn thing won't be charged. I'll be packing around a 10 lb rock for all the good it will do.

So - DC truck - inverter to AC - DC to jumper device (700amp+) Is there such an animal???

The lithium battery packs shown only need a maintenance charge once a year. Put it in your glove box and forget about it.

There is nothing that you can start a car with using the inverter plug.

No. You can run a battery charger but you'll need to run your vehicle for hours (like those EVs) to charge the other battery otherwise your battery will be dead. The plug is AC and to boost a car you need DC at 12V and about 70 to 100 amps (850 to 1200 watts). But those little booster boxes can do it.

Make sure you get the booster pack that has an AC charger with it. Some of them only have a 12V accessory plug for charging so how do you charge it when your battery is dead?

No. It's output is only 400 watts AC. I carry a Microstart XP1 and couldn't be happier with it.

If for some reason my XP1 loses charge I can recharge it using the AC inverter. Not super quickly I imagine but it's better than walking. :)

You're a good person for wanting to assist someone, I applaud you. The inverter won't cut it for your purpose, being only good for 400w. or about 3 amps max. no matter what you convert it to.

I also needed a way to jump a dead battery, ended up with an Antigravity XP-10. I put it in whatever vehicle I'm driving that day. I've used it twice, once to start a neighbor's 7.3L diesel truck. It holds a full charge for over a year, and you can use it a bunch of times on one charge. Don't leave it in a vehicle all day, every day. Heat/cold will eventually kill any battery. Get the best one you can afford. It will be worth twice what you paid, first time you need it.

Also, some people don't want jumper cables used on their vehicle battery, they're afraid it will fry their computer... it won't, but they think it will. They'll be relieved when you whip out the little jump starter, and amazed when it works!

I'm out in the boonies on remote job sites all day, every day w/no cell service most of the time. For me, the peace of mind is priceless. And if I can help someone else, so much the better.

I've had an XP-10 about 5 years, charged it twice, but even after a year, it didn't really need it. It came in a nice zippered case w/accessories to run/charge other stuff if you want, and instructions... plug the included jumper cable into it, clamp the other end onto the battery like you would jumpers, start, that's it! Even has a 'boost' button. Press to start if the battery is completely dead.

This is true!! I have only been in a situation of needing a jump twice in my lifetime. I carry jumper cables in all my vehicles, and I can remember asking several people for help and being turned down.

On the other hand, I can't even count how many times I've jumped other people's vehicles.

To the OP, I'll echo what others have said,. the stock inverter doesn't put out enough amperage to start someone's vehicle if you convert back to 12v. The lithium ion jump packs are probably your best bet for a low maintenance solution.
