I just turned 90K on my 2008 DC TRD OR. I bought it in 2012 with 67,xxx miles I believe. I haven't taken my truck in for the leaf recall yet. I'm hoping to do that soon, but I'm wondering how long the front struts and coils last or when I should start thinking about replacing/upgrading?

The coils are probably fine. The dampers....they're probably shot

    I got 2005 with 160xxx.
I did do the recalled leaf. But other than that I'm on stock suspension.
I'm sure some of these trucks go 300k
    On stocks... :notsure:

If you can afford it, you might as well replace them. A good rule of thumb is every 60k miles.

There's like some test for this for he front end, like push down on the front end at end corner and see if it's bouncy, if it keeps bouncing a bit the shocks are shot or something.

But I mean 90k that's a lot of miles on factory shocks and the "crap" leafs.

I made it 67000 miles before I couldn't stand the wallowing and rolling anymore. Nothing was broken though.

If you have extra money, new shocks wouldn't hurt. That being said, if you're not bouncing up and down like a boat when you drive around, you're probably not in any imminent danger. I'm on 150xxx and mine feel fine.

Stock is good for around 50 - 60 K. Aftermarket upgrades will last much longer, depending on what you buy and how you use it.

You're just used to how it rides, even though it's slowly breaking down and becoming worthless - just like your aging body :boink:

No - I test it monthly by pushing down on it in the front and standing/bouncing on my rear bumper and there's no bounce. I'll call that still good.

I own an awd eagle talon that needs springs.
No matter how use to her I am.. i can still feel the rolling around corners and the whole front end drop once I let off gas/turbo
Tough to "get use to" that.

For what it's worth, of all my friends' and family's cars, suspension has always been one of those "don't bother until it's broke. And you'll know for sure when it's broke". Never has there been a set interval when they neede replacing. Same for my own cars and trucks.

My understanding is Monroe always pushed for 60k because their shocks can't last longer, and they advertise a lot/have posters in shops, etc. So, it gets reiterated a lot.

A quality shock definitely can, though.

Same. Though at about 120k we replaced the suspension on my 4Runner and then noticed a few thousand miles later that the worn out stock suspension had started fucking up the tire tread wear pattern. Now I need to get some new tires at some point.

So it's more like one of those things that you can delay replacing for a long while but it definitely will need replacing at some point before it causes other issues.

Stock suspension lasts a lot longer than it's "good for."

My buddy had 130k on his stock suspension, and his 4x4 truck was sagged well over an inch front and rear from stock height. So, it still worked - but it was haggard and sagging. OEM take off suspension with no miles/low miles can be found for $250 (complete), so it's an easy upgrade for little money and you'll notice how much lower the truck sat from new, and how much worse the ride was.
