I'm at 52k and haven't changed the plugs yet. I bought the truck brand new. It's running fine so I figure I won't mess with any change for another 10k

Made a lot of hard spots, then "popped" free, throughout the removal, eh? A friend's did that to me. Thought I broke the ratchet, or the plug.

You added antiseize to the new plugs, correct?

    Yes.

Drivers side had resistance all the way out, had a noticeable more baked in crud on the threads. I presume maybe from the pvc system.

I'm just approaching 30K, also bought the truck new. I had been thinking I'd let it go for a while, but now I'm thinking of changing them after reading this thread.

At least inspect them. Slap some antiseize on them, and they'll be a delight to remove in the future.

The Denso Iridium tip plugs were designed to last 100k. All things being in optimal condition.

I don't use anti-seize but I also change my plugs every 30k. Haven't had any binding problems or any trouble pulling the plugs.

The over tightening for sure. I feel for the crush washer crushing. 30 ft-lbs non lunricated, is a lower torque number for lubricated. Thus their comment about over tightening.

However, had even the slightest amount have been applied to the threads prior to install, those thousands of heat cycles of the years to equate to 130k, would certianly help them remove easier. Without the fear of breaking them.

It is all about moderation. It might sound perfect on the paper, but I guarantee that it is better to have than not.

Those that have never had to deal with a broken spark plug because of the threads being seized, will never know. Or an exhaust sensor, or other exhaust hardware, due to no antiseize. A little goes a long way.

Slightly related to the topic. ~95k on my subaru outback. Came out with easy. Utterly surprised at how well the engine still ran. Pulled them out to be replaced, as part of the heads' gaskets replacement job.

having a filthy air filter means that its doing its job, if it wasn't trapping the dirt before it got to your engine that dirt would be in your engine. think on the bright side:D

Why not just spend the $20 and hour worth of time and replace the plugs anyway?

Which Denso did you go with? Iridium or platinum. Due for a change myself.

    Same as everybody else...
Copper...got em on Amazon for cheap. They work great, I just wish the recommended change interval was more than 30k.

Thanks, looks like I have some maintenance for the weekend to go along with my front diff and transfer case fluid change.

    Too few to list.
I agree, a little anti-seize goes a long way. Not in the Tacoma but it was a pain to extract a broken plug.

I also had half ngk and denso when i first swapped them. When i went to the dealership, they gave me all denso plugs. no misfires and i also set the gap at .040 using an autozone sparkplug gap tool
