Okay, here is my dilemma: I am moving soon and I can't find a hitch insert which fits into my new bumper (NO I am not going to sell).

So I ordered a replacement with enough drop, but the hole won't line up with the insert all the way inserted:




Here is the vote, who thinks it's a bad idea to drill where it is marked:



I don't really want to cut off the support piece to make it work......

 

Drill a little further away from the hole and you'll be good, maybe another 1/2"

 

That was the plan to have some space. So you don't think it will cause any issues?

Next question, somebody with a drillpress?

 

The mark is actually where the hole is when fully inserted.

 

Yeh, i'd say the hole you want to close is a bit too close to the original, moving it back a tad shouldn't hurt anything. Super car manufacturers cut holes in things all the time to save weight and they run 24 hours of Le'Maund... my logic is solid right?

 

You shouldn't have any issues, just need enough stock so that the hitch won't torque up and down. And no drill press, but shouldn't need one with enough lube. Biggest bit I have is 1/2"

How heavy is your trailer?

 

Not really heavy, planing on renting the utility trailer at Uhaul for the furniture. I'm moving across the parking lot, so not going far either
