    Allows them to glide against each other more easily/smoothly under flex, and yes, we hope it keeps them quiet in the process. The will get a good coating of dry moly spray lube between each leaf, too.
    @scottalot too

    interesting.....that's a good idea :thumbsup:

    Is this a new pack or are you rebuilding an old pack? I'd like to hear if it makes a noticeable difference!!

    New. On the first gen I had, the new Dakars arrived with a significant amount of mill scale and rust/flaking paint between the leaves, and all the plastic spring retaining clip liners were broken, so I ended up refurbishing them when "new." :rolleyes: I did not chamfer those, but I did grind and then moly lube between leaves, and removed the pucks. I never heard a squeak out of them in a few years. Also had the OME greasable schackles/bushings in the rear.

    So with this 2nd gen set, I was prepared for the worst, but they were in far better shape. Not sure if you caught this, but I am pulling one overload, and inserting the AAL to suit my needs for loads and towing, but still having good flex/droop. Taking them apart and chamfering is pretty fast. Cleaning off the random smeared globs of grease from the factory (uselessly and inconsistently placed) is the most time consuming part of the process.

    Good info, thank you. I did notice the changes you're making, I hope everything works out for you as planned :thumbsup:

    I don't notice any leaf noises in my expo pack right now (or I just ignore them :notsure: ) but I've been considering tearing them apart and giving them a once-over so I'll have to keep this in mind. I feel like it's the little things like this that always seem the make the biggest differences :thumbsup:

    Nice. ARB could pay more attention to quality and QC, but they fit the bill for my needs, especially with easy mods.

    If you need to know. A full size mattress and box spring fit perfectly in a first gen with a camper shell
