I failed to yield at a stop sign and hit a F250 on his driver side door. He was going 55, I was heavy on the go pedal and was going about 15. He basically just pulled over while mine spun around and ended up like you see it (I was coming from where the dually is in the background of the first pic). One weird thing is that no glass broke and no airbags went off. Not a scratch on either of us. Thank God that my wife (7 months pregnant) wasn't with me.

but they are supposed to be designed for a certain mph force impact right? thats what i always thought and i was under the impression you didnt have to be going that fast... You would hope, by looking at that front end, that they would have went off:) right?
any one know the specs on that stuff?

I contacted Toyota's safety department about it. They called me the next day and asked me to send those pictures to their email so they could review. I sent them about 2 weeks ago now and haven't heard back since. One of my coworkers is a volunteer fireman who said that, from the accidents he has seen, the cutoff is somewhere around 35 mph for the front airbags going off. If I had side curtains, they would have deployed, but those weren't on the 06.

@ ryan: As for the pic that has part of the grill, the bumper is about 10 yards to my right when I took that one. Don't worry about being a dick, its those assholes you have to watch out for.;)

You are correct. I have been on a shit ton of accidents and have been through a lot of vehicle extrication classes. I think all cars are different. But for the majority they are all set to go off at an impact of greater then 12mph(I could be wrong), but it is not a lot by any means. What we were told was that its a magnetic ball sitting on a pedistool?(spelling) and when the ball falls off the air bags go off. Now different cars have different systems. But I saw a Saturn roll multiple times, kit a power pole and a tree and landed on its roof and no air bag deployment. It blew my mind.

Now a saftey talk :D. If you are in a wreck and the air bags do not go off, BE VERY CAREFUL, especially with our passenger seats being weight activated. Stay as far away from air bags as possible. Even with the battery disconnected they have been known to go off.

Here is my stuck tacoma, actually its more trapped at the bottom of a field. I can't make it up the hill I came down and the other exit is now blocked by a guard rail. :anonymous:

I may buy some tire chains...
