I think the majority have had no issues. The BD tuner itself is finicky, but the tuning file is solid IMO.

Some of the problems that have come to light turned out to be from other mods.

I have a mpg problem caused by the heavy foot mod. Can't uninstall it though.

Well, the more feedback BD gets and the more troubleshooting they have to do,hopefully they will continue to refine their tuning files/programmer.

I have the TRD reflash but it's safe to say I can't wear tight pants whenever I drive my Tacoma.

Do you know any place which can reflash the ECU with TRD SC file? Just ECU itself, without the truck. I have one spare ECU, I'd like to get it flashed.

    Without a doubt.

It's probably one of the best mods you can do to your Tacoma.

What I'm saying is don't throw the kitchen sink at your truck wrt mods and expect perfect results as soon as you turn the key.

The tuning files are designed to work with a stock truck + supercharger or a stock + supercharger + 2.85 pulley. And I believe Magnuson designed the tune - BD just makes the flash box.

If you add a CAI and/or exhaust, you'll flow more air. Now you're maybe no longer within the parameters the tune was designed for. So you better have a plan to address that, be it a 7th injector, bigger injectors (x6), bigger fuel pump, or maybe even a custom tuning file.

And if you're going to add more mods, add them one at a time, so you can document what each mod does. And know what to reverse if something goes wrong.

    Thats stupid.
Toyota got my blower on with headers, ypipe, 3" exhaust.

No issues, took it home, threw on the urd intake.... zero issues.... later threw on fuel pump and 2.85 and no issues.

U call it science, i call it stupid.
    Broken record?
    More like broken r&d

By ignored, he means harrassed via PM.

Meanwhile, i rlly want to know wth is wrong here. If its bd or a new component that maggy had to source. If its maggy, maybe they can find a better source, if its bd, maybe they can adjust the tune.

But this non support of bolt ons goes against everything that adding a blower seems to mean to the performance minded

I have stock exhaust and stock intake. Only mod I have is the 2.85 pulley. I'm running the bd 2.85 tune.
No reason it shouldn't run like a champ then right?
I haven't thrown any codes but its very apparent there is improvement to be made. It runs flat at various rpms and throttle positions and runs like a scalded cat at others.
I'm going to upgrade my fuel pump to eliminate that variable. Then I'll consider the TRD flash next probably. Or run some data log software and see if bd will custom create a tune for me.

How many with BD problems were a self install?

Not sure what their actual cause is yet, but even the best mechanics make a mistake or miss something.

    :notsure:

Edit: I'm running a stock intake, stock pulley and TRD exhaust.

Why you think it's the fuel pump? It makes no sense to me.

You keep assuming and re-stating that other mods and not disconnecting the battery are causing these problems.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but on my particular truck you are dead wrong on both of those assumptions.

I took mine to a very capable mechanic (If you haven't seen @DOUBLLD build, you should check it out  ) and had issues with the tune from day 1. I have AFE CAI, stock pulley, and TRD exhaust. As soon as I took it to Toyota, the stumbling disappeared even though they said they couldn't flash the ECU. I took it back and asked them to flash it anyway, even though it said it had the latest update. They claim they did, and I have had no problems since.
I can echo this as well. I know that at least once I disconnected the battery thinking this might help clear the ECU after the BD update. I don't know which time I did this; I went back and forth so many times with it that I lost track of what happened when. It is just a blur of running back and forth to the computer, curses, and throwing tantrums in my garage. I would like to forget that episode. All I know is Toyota did something to my truck when they hooked up the techstream, and it fixed the issue. Tater your argument could be valid, but we really don't know. All I know is:
    1. Most seem to have no issues with the BD tuner. They may or may not be running other mods with the tune. Fine and dandy for them. I wish I had been one of them.
    2. Those who do have issues with the BD, have seemed to have better luck with the TRD flash from Toyota.

My truck is running good now. I feel it still has room for improvement, but I am satisfied for now. I tend to not be a lead foot, and I shift early in the RPM band, so I rarely feel all that the SC is capable of. On the occasion that I feel like opening her up, she sings that siren song to me and the adrenaline levels hit the top of the cab.
