Engine light stays on- EGR error code

    98 taco 4x4 xtracab SR5
    The engine light stays on in my 98 taco 2.7L auto 4x4. I had it checked, they said the error code was for the EGR valve. I removed the valve, it was clean and seemed to be working. The truck passed California smog test with the light on.

    Anyone else have this problem? Fix?
