Just wondering but is there a way to to have both oem key fob remote start and a secondary aftermarket key fob with a longer range? Ex. Viper key fobs. This would be great for starting the car when I am in my house but it is a rather far walk from my work to my car. I am planning on getting this kit but would love to have a longer range.

Just to get a few things clear before purchasing.

    1. When you install this and activate remote start you have to press unlock on the fob to open the door.
    2. When remote start is not active the regular touching of door handle will unlock.
    3. Is it possible to incorporate different remote
    4. Are you able todo any aux controls like controlling the dei window modules

    Thanks

1&2- both the fob and the touch strip work while running on and off remote start

3- you can add an rf extender and second remote for extended range. You can also add smart start for virtually unlimited range using a smartphone.
4- above my pay grade. Some vehicles offer it as a configurable option through the dball itself along with a lot of other fancy options. May require an aftermarket alarm to do it on a tacoma though.

If you aren't going to solder, this is how we recommend splicing the wires:

The white wire represents the wire that you are splicng into, the black represents a wire from the harness

Take a razor blade or sharp pocket knife, and strip a section of the white wire. Then use your wire strippers to strip the end of the black wire.

Fold the stripped section of the white wire as shown

    Now, twist the wires together

Then, fold the twisted wires against the white wires, and wrap with electrical tape

I used heavier gauge wire for the pictures, but it will be even easier with the smaller wire in the truck.

Make sure to twist the wires tight, and tape tight and generously.

Mine didn't come with taps. Anyone know where I can pick up the 3M ones? Not sure if someplace like Home Depot has them or not.

Those quick splice connectors are crap so you're not missing out on anything. A couple here have used posi-taps. You'd need 7 of them and they're pricey at about $1.30-1.50/each but at least they don't completely mutilate the wire either. They also make a posi-lock to connect two wire ends together similar to how the auto-headlight wires are done but probably just as easy to twist, solder and heat-shrink those. Will still need a different method to connect to the 12V wire but you can use the method below.

Below is a 20-22 from an assortment pack that I ordered just to check out. They also make a 24-26 which is more in line with the wire sizes but another member in the pre-order thread used the 20-22's and said they seemed to work fine.

I think I might actually just end up soldering them all for peace of mind.
