Thing happens when I push that other thing down, it has some play but it doesn't make any click or noise or anything.
Although now I can move the other side that brings out the spring

you should hear a pop or boing when its released you will know right away, also do not slam the hood down you will not get it latched that way it will only fuck up the hood mechanism worse, do not force it

That part is in accessible from underneath. I am pushing on it from on top with everything in me and I cannot get it to move more than a couple millimeters

come back up top look at the main spring on the mechanism, take a standard screwdriver to the driver side tab where the spring attachs push it towards the right/driver side this should release the lock. it should not have to be forced

I can tell by your picture the main spring is not retracted so the lock is closed, you have to pop the lock open by releasing the spring tension MANUALLY with a screwdriver

The only "tab" that I can push to the right is the tab on the left after I push down the lock in the center.
I still am having no luck and don't know what to do. Should I just get the other latch that someone here offered???

The big lever in the middle for the lock, I can push it down and then un lock it with the tab that is attached to the right side of the spring.
Just moving the tob of the unlock tab does nothing.
The handle inside also unlocks it. The hood just won't go into the lock.

Edit: it goes into the spot where it locks but the lock will not slip over it.

The tab to the right does not move right either. Only down and up.

The lowermost tab that is under the spring, that attaches to the cable, moved to the right and that unlocks the lock. But the hood still won't lock.

this is what im saying about manually, if you close the hood and have someone in the truck is the hood release all the way out or does it retract some

if you could get it to a mechanic without the hood flying open would be best, they could figure it out in 5 minutes there are only a few things that could be bad. its the cable or the return spring, lastly the latch usually its not a latch problem they are very sturdy

if the hood release in the truck sticks out and doesn't retract then the latch in front is not unlocked
