Just a thought I had driving home yesterday. I hated how the tranny on this truck functioned at first to the point where I considered trading it in on a Frontier.. But after the fix a couple of months back, I'm glad I waited.. But it occurred to me, how many might of bailed too soon.. It really is a night and day difference.

How much time and effort should a person put in on a near $40k truck? For that money, and Toyota reputation, there shouldn't have been any issue at all

Oh I absolutely agree.. I was to the point of trading it for a Frontier. Thing was though that it was the first Yota that had really disappointed me as far as performance and/or function after purchasing it.. We got my wife's Camry the year before and it drove like a dream so I figured it was just growing pains. Then it just got to where I was just like "fukk it! It doesn't work".. Called a couple of Nissan places and actually got some good trade in deals on the Pro 4x Frontier.. Then after fix came out, took it in, and to this day it still drives great.. Been 2 months and so far so good.. Hope it sticks..

I bailed on my Toyota about a month ago, enjoyed reading here and still do. I got so many negative replies when I posted I had traded, it was sort of odd people felt so strongly about the Tacoma. No regrets on trading it off, a lot of remarks were made that I had unrealistic expectations etc coming down from a fullsize pickup, totally untrue as I had owned a 92, a 95 and 2008 Toyotas and pretty sure my expectations were in line with the way a small truck should have performed. Currently driving a Ram and my wife an Acura, in my opinion both of these vehicles have a much better drive train combo than the Tacoma, but we each have our own opinions and expectations.

Why do people throw $40k out as if this some how means anything. Sorry to say but $40k is about the average car price. My expectation is that a $40k truck is average/mediocre. If you bought a $80k Land Cruiser you might have an argument.

It's pretty sad that 40k is an average price for a truck today.

I have had issues with my Tacoma but got them fixed. Drives like a truck should. I don't drive it like a sports car cause it's not one. I'll be keeping mine for as long as possible.

I'm from America, look up the average car price. $40k is about average in terms of car prices. I understand that is a lot of money for some people but there are a lot more expensive cars.

So you're okay with $40k only getting you a mediocre truck that comes low on ATF, that howls, that can't hold a gear, that constantly needs to be brought in for updates? At what price point should we expect a truck that just works without issue?

As someone who traded in a Frontier for the Tacoma, all I can do is LOL at this.

Everyone will have a different opinion.

I personally love my '17 Sport, manual transmission. It is a blast to drive and avoids all of the headache people complain about with the auto. I came from a Ram 1500 and the Tacoma, to me, is head and shoulders above the Ram. The Taco feels so much more solidly built. I have complete faith that I'll get 100's of thousands of trouble free miles from my Tacoma.

To each his own though. I probably would be pretty irked if I dropped 35k on vehicle and immediately disliked it. But that also begs the question, wouldn't you have noticed the shifting on a test drive? Why drop that kind of money on something without thoroughly testing it.

Not a lot of money for me it will b pay off by the end of next year BUT
Average car in the USA cost 25k to 30k
    So ur already wrong there
That's why I'll stop explaining anything to you other than saying ...
And I'll repeat myself , cars that cost 15k 20k drive better than this truck

Nope. I paid $34K for a phenomenal truck that has no issues.

Mine felt fine, but still got the newest update when I brought it in. Mine howls down the highway so taped it up. And no symptoms, but was still almost a quart low on ATF. What long term effects will that have? TBD

Some on here are just toyota fanboys who will never fault them for anything - and that's coming from someone who has purchased five new Toyotas for different reasons in five years!

I paid 36,307 for a 40,857 truck and my expectation is that it works without issue and so far has issues. I'd expect that from a $20k car or $100k car too.

Mine doesn't have those issues and the people that do are actually a small minority. If I did have those issues I would simply have it fixed under warranty.

Based on car pricing I would expect an $80k+ to be issue free.

Incorrect sir. Try google. KBB and other sources site that average car transaction is about $34k and since most of us paid around invoice, I paid $36k, I got a pretty average vehicle.

I'll wait for the 2018 Tacoma in hopes of a more smooth shifting transmission and more low end torque (maybe an 8 speed trans, Toyota already has em). Otherwise, I'll be looking seriously at a Colorado.
