There are more sources than just KBB. Honestly try to be less ignorant man. You are convinced of your own bias.

What's funny is Ferrari is notorious for having all kinds of issues with basic stuff like power windows and quality yet they are $200k+. Though to be fair Enzo also said he sold engines, the car just came with it.

At least we don't need to do a full engine drop for a timing chain replacement that costs $9000 at the dealer every 3 years

seems many just expect that the truck should be perfect with the price.
Don't get me wrong they aren't cheap, but every vehicle has problems and none are perfect.
Its kind of comical people always bringing up toyota reputation but what are they talking about?
Is everyone suddenly forgetting the frame rot on the 2nd gen?

To me as long as the engine and transmission are working thats all I care about. Everything else is great if it works perfect but if not oh well. Understandable many don't want to spend extra money, but I understand nothing will be perfect especially from the line, and I've always been ok with putting my own money into a vehicle to make it better. Wish I didn't have to, but oh well.

Then again its just the way I was raised and have always worked. At work I don't bother trying to tell people how to do stuff, figure just do it myself so I know its done right, the first time.

Unless I have complete failure of vital components, I wouldn't give up.

exactly what I've been thinking all this time.

40k is not expensive when you compare it to the whole market.
besides these trucks are new, all new vehicles have issues and there hasn't been enough time to see if these new ones meet toyota reputation for reliable engines etc.

I'm on my second Tacoma, had a 2011 and now a 2016. Several issues and TSBs performed on both. Still really enjoy these trucks and am hoping the next Tacoma I buy will have fewer issues than the previous two. Third time is a charm :fingerscrossed:

you're comparing cars to trucks though?

what's with so many comparisons of apples to oranges on here.
I've seen a lot of post from people like 'oh this isn't as comfortable as my bmw was' well no fuckin shit its not its a pick up truck not a luxury sports sedan.

I haven't gotten in mine and said
'oh this tacoma is really underpowered to my car that I put 20k in the engine'

I'm sure there are plenty of cars you can buy for cheaper than a tacoma that might ride better but what were they built for? the road. I'm sure my sisters 2015 honda civic rides smoother than the tacoma but its a car that's built for streets. Its not a king ranch f150 or ram larimie longhorn.

Besides the engine and trans are a new configuration on these obviously there will be some bumps, if toyota wasn't doing anything about it, it would be a problem but they are trying to address all the issues.

People put out the 40k number (and any number really) because that is still a lot of money to pay for a brand new truck that already has the dash rattling, differentials howling and being replaced, horrible low RPM performance and extremely odd torque curve, excessive wind noise through the seals, squeaking pedals, rumbling vibration coming to a stop, excessive steering wheel vibration at certain RPMs, and those are just things I see on my truck. I can go on and on with what others are experiencing too.

The reality is that this Tacoma is experiencing problems that no new car/truck should and when people start to justify all of the issues by saying no new vehicle is perfect well then what is setting the Tacoma (and their high price tag) or Toyota apart from anyone else now? Only reason I've kept it is because of the manual transmission.

Doesn't matter if it is a 20k new car, 40k new car, 80k new car, 120k new car, new cars/trucks in 2016 shouldn't howl, rattle, have excessive/odd vibration issues, etc etc.

If anyone justifies issues like that on a new car or truck and thinks they are so minor, I can find them plenty of older used cars or trucks for A LOT less that still have plenty of miles left on them. Why even buy new if they are coming off the lot with used truck issues?

The thing is they cannot fix many of the issues warranty or not ,or so they keep telling me.Buzzy vibration, wind noise, transmission that clunks into gear downshifting, all normal per my dealer.

Mine felt great for about 3,000 miles after the TSB then it reverted. I feel like the "learning trans" shoots itself in the foot. Also I still get a pretty significant shift flare in the mornings from 3rd to 4th gear about 800rpms or more

Forgot the dash rattle, lol. In all seriousness though my main concern is that long term there is more than likely hardware design or production problems with the transmission and they keep throwing software revisions to cover it up.

the transmission isn't really new for toyota corp just for the tacoma.
I'm sure they just did tuning changes to make it work with the tacoma, once they sort it out it should be ok.
Its been fine in the Lexus SUVs that use it.

Average new car price in the US is $33,500, so NO, a $40K truck isnt average or mediocre.

Who paid $40k for their truck? Most are paying invoice $30k-$36k. Close enough for me.

its just a westerner thing I swear.
My cousins always make fun of north america for it too haha. The culture in europe is different.

Even australia. I love the 70 series land crusier so always watch reviews on it. Only complaint people seem to have on it is the different wheel track that the front and rear have. Otherwise you don't see people complaining how for 80k you don't get all these luxury features etc.

It seems here people want to buy a vehicle and have it be perfect for everything.
I know my family has had some old fiat tractor for years, starting it is a mess and what not but they don't care, once its running it works great and has never causes any problems in all the years they've owned it. Works perfect for what it was designed for thats all that matters to them.
