In preparation to have new wheels/tires mounted, I was getting all geared up to have TPMS sensors swapped over on my 2016 TRD OR AC MT. I went to the dealership, picked up a set of sensor seal kits, then off to the tire shop. To my and their surprise, the truck did not have TPMS sensors.

Felt like I won the lottery, went back to the dealership to return the seal kits. They said that as far as they know all 16's should come with TPMS. They even made it sound like I should upset/concerned about it. The stupid seal kits alone were $80 alone so enough said there.

I though it might be model related but here is the kicker, the guy who bought my stock wheels/tires has the exact same truck, TRD OR Access Cab MT, even in the same QS colour.
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing on theirs?

TPMS sensors are required by law, are you sure there is no TPMS sensor or was the tire shop mistaken. They are usually in the valve stem, strapped to the rim, etc.

The OR should have TPMS. You don't have a light on saying tpms not found or anything like that?

Definitely not mistaken since the stock wheels and tires are now gone, no light on the dash!

Not in Canada. TPMS only comes in auto tranny, MT Access Cab doesn't have them here.

TRD OR rims are gone, sold them. But I can assure you that there was nothing there.

What is your reported tire psi on your dash. If they are reporting a tire psi then you have TPMS installed and working.

I ignorantly assume everyone is in 'Murica

    This is from www.tc.gc.ca

"The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is not a manufacturing requirement on new vehicles sold in Canada, or on imported vehicles. Furthermore, there is no federal regulation that prohibits disabling the TPMS system on vehicles, as vehicle use falls under provincial and territorial jurisdictions.

While the TPMS is not a requirement in Canada, the U.S. Federal Regulations require that all new light vehicles sold in the U.S. since September 2007 be equipped with a TPMS. Some manufacturers do offer TPMS on vehicles sold in Canada as either standard or optional equipment. To find out whether the TPMS as equipped conforms to U.S. federal standards or the manufacturer’s own standards, please refer to the owner’s manual or contact the dealership.

Based on our research and collision investigation programs, Transport Canada has not identified a pattern of motor vehicle collisions caused conclusively by tire failure in Canada. However, we continue to monitor the effectiveness of TPMS to determine if they provide any potential safety benefits to Canadians and will take action as required. The Motor Vehicle Safety Act does not provide Transport Canada the authority to mandate TPMS on the basis of fuel economy benefits. Fuel economy falls under the jurisdiction of other entities.

Transport Canada recommends that tires be inspected and serviced regularly, and be inflated to the correct pressure at all times to increase safety. For optimal vehicle handling and to prevent tire failure, tire pressure and tire wear should be checked on a monthly basis, even on TPMS-equipped vehicles. Proper tire maintenance also improves fuel economy, extends tire life, and reduces exhaust emissions that contribute to environmental and health problems."

My only question then is why did the guy who bought my wheels have the system on his truck. Perhaps a different tech package?

Correct, has been for years. I've had TPMS in my last 3 vehicles here, Ranger and two Tacomas. Seems Toyota is really cheaping out not installing them here, even though some folks don't want them.

No BRO-ness to speak of... Well, except Kbro2's
I have a '16 OR. Didn't need an $80 seal kit when i swapped my wheels. Sensors are part of the valve stem. They just swapped mine out to the new wheels (well, they broke one but that is a whole different story!). Go through your display on the dash and find this screen.... No way you don't have TPMS.

*EDIT* Just saw you were from north of the US. Must be a Canadian thing, EH?
