CB specifics

Well the part it would hit if it did would be the plastic that dropped over the tailgate. It is a very rigid design from front to back. It does have some flex from side to side but with a spring under the antenna, it has done well to this point. I had the same fear but to this point it seems to be doing well.

 

Had to bend the C4 mount a few degrees to fit a Leer R100. No big deal.


But it sure does look good.

 

Someone please manufacture a hood/ front fender antenna mount please.

Hey CB guys got a question....

I don't know much about CB's but I've had a few over the years and I've never been able to really talk with anyone that wasn't in sight.

The truck drivers always seem to just rule the air. Is it because they have modified units that are pushing way more than 4 watts?

 

Have you tuned your antennas in the past? Good tunning is easy and probably the most important part of your installation as far as signal strength. I've never used an in line amplifier but I've heard they can increase range but usually just create allot of "noise" when in the hands of an amateur.

 

Yeah I always tune my units with an SWR meter. How many watts would you think the pro CB guys are pushing? 30?

 

Honestly I'm one of the amateurs and have never needed a moded radio so I really don't know. I'm sure someone smarter than me will chime in soon.

how's everyone running the antenna cable to the CB? I know everyones saying there's a grommet under the seat you can use to get in but whats everyone doing from the back to there?
Going along the frame or what?

 

I put mine inside woven wire loom, ran along the top of frame zip-tying to other OEM wire looms every 2-3 ft or where I felt appropriate. On my 2nd gen it actually is ran on passenger side where exhaust is so I added some high temp jacketing in that area which was probably overkill.

 

Well when i had my linear amp i was running 400 watts but i never really needed it. I also had a nice SWR meter to tune with. I think it was something I did because I was a kid and thought it was cool but honestly not very practical. Its the same way for me with the audio now. I would have had replaced all the speakers in the truck already and gone crazy with a build and lots of money. I suggest just stick with the basic and get you equipment professionally tuned. Not tweaked just tuned.

 

Where did you grab power from?

 

I went through the firewall straight to the battery. Used an inline fuse for protection. I have intentionally left the cb on overnight and power draw is so small that it didn't drain the battery.

 

I am thinking of using the fusebox near our left feet - did you explore that option? I also have a dash cam I need to plug in so I can relive my hobo-dozing adventures.

 

I thought about it but I have always been told that the battery gives the cleanest power without a noise. For a camera though noise may not be as much of a factor so the fuse box may be a good option. I plan to install a front facing camera sometime in the near future.

 

Unless it's touchless I don't go. I had a full yeti 35 and when I went through the brush that does hood and top flipped the cooler on the ground. Hahaha. I don't want to lose a wiper or mirror I learned my lesson

 

I did the same but eventually it killed the batter for good. The draw is so little from the memory
And it's not going to kill your battery in one night but the excessive draining and recharging and draining and recharging will kill your battery for good!

 

What was your solution for wiring it?
